Love the plant and love the Common Buckeye caterpillar even more! I miss those...haven't had any of the caterpillars in a couple of years! When I do get them, they're on my agalinis plants.

Buckeyes eat a lot of different things and I must admit, I didn't know Firecracker Fern (that's what I call it) was one of them. My neighbor has this plant and it's on the border with my property. I see a lot of Sulphur butterflies on it, but I never thought to check for caterpillars. We grow it at MOSI, too. But there we typically feed the Buckeyes either Ruellia spp. or Plantago spp.

I didn't overwinter the Russelia. It died with the freeze/frost years ago when I grew it.

More caterpillars! I demand more caterpillars!

Buckeyes are so beautiful in person. You can see the blue in the photo but in real life it shimmers like glitter. So pretty and one of my faves. Well, they're all my faves. I was over checking my neighbor's Firecracker Fern this morning. Nothing yet, but I'm going to keep a closer eye on it this year. Thanks for teaching me something new, Marilyn!
