What a great way to start Celebrating Sempervivum, with a small taste of what these plants can do in the color department.

FYI, the last photo, 'Positively Glowing' is one of Kevin Vaughn's new hybrids. I think it will be coming on the market later this spring through Young's Garden Center. It is even more beautiful to see it up close and personal. I can't wait to have this one in my garden.

Awesome photo dirtdorphins. We had the same ones here when we bought this place in 1999. They are such tough semps, and beautiful. What more could you ask for?
Is it growing out of the side of the boot? Green Grin!

Great pictures! I have to admit, I don't know much about sempervivum, but will pay more attention at the garden centers this spring.

I've only known sempervivum as hen and chicks, and only have one that is probably the garden variety type. It was added to my garden in 2012 after my dad passed away and I put it in his old work boots. They have grown a lot (as have the weeds and creeping phlox around them!)

I have come to a point in life that I love them all, for the contrast in the beds. But that also depends on what catches my eye each day that I go out. Who know what my favorite will be today or tomorrow.

We cross posted Vickie. I looks like you have two different semps. The contrast they provide is very nice. They will probably overflow the boots this year.

I have a semp in memory of my mother, it is very special to me since is has the same name.

Gorgeous is right! I didn't see the watermarks on 'Peggy' until I clicked on the picture. Very lovely Thumbs up

Lynn, good to know I may have two different varieties. I remember buying them, but I don't even know if they were labeled or not. Two years ago, I thought there was only one kind of hen and chicks Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I've learned a lot since then!

I thought you two might like the watermarkings. Smiling

Vickie, there are many hundreds of different named cultivars, ranging anywhere from rosettes the size of your pinky fingernail, to ones that are up to 11 or 12 inches across, in many different colors. Many of which change color from season to season.
It is so easy to get hooked on them.

This is one of the very tiny ones.

Yes, that is the coloration in August. I think the heat brings out the watermarks. Going out to see what it looks like right now. Hurray! This is me running because it is raining.

This is what it looks like today 3/14/2015

Love your "Peggy" pictures. They are wonderful. How pleased your mama would be to know you have a reminder (and such a beauty) of her to see so often.

I really admire the pictures in the rain but not sure I have the fortitude to get out and take pictures as you real semp growers do. (remember where I was in the rain at last year's clinic) Whistling Rolling on the floor laughing
