reminded my how prisms have really caught my eye. I'm thinking about getting a coupe prisms and Amethyst Prism has now moved toward the top of the list.

Malachite Prism is one that I like but Carl at Harmon Hill says it is tender in New Hampshire so I shied away from buying it this spring.

Cindy posted a nice photo of Nava jo Princess so I’m assuming it grows well in Michigan.

Navajo Princess did great, but one spring it died. I need to replace it...

I've had Malachite Prism for about 4-5 years, never has bloomed well and hasn't increased.
Someone told me they've had Malachite Prism since it came out in 1999 and it hasn't increased!

Not really much help though...

It is the triangular eyezone and throat, I'm pretty sure...

Is "So Many Stars" considered a prism? If so, that one is definitely Michigan hardy. It is striking. Not in the way that the Amethyst prism is, but it definitely calls out to you.

I love all of these, but my very favorite is AMETHYST PRISM.

I think Pirate's Prism is to die for.... .and Azure Prism!

Now I only have to find out where I can buy them
(Which might prove harder than for you guys in the USA..)

Mayo - The flowers are called prisms because of the elongated triangular eyezone.

Betty - That photo of Picotee Prism is marvelous. I think that one is calling my name. Do you have that one. And, if so, how does it perform for you? Also, what makes Amethyst Prism your favorite. I got that one because it was the largest at that time. I got it as a single fan this year, but it has already divided into three fans. I just hope it will be hardy here.

Debra, that was Ann's picture of PICOTEE PRISM that I posted, and here is how it looked for me:



Not nearly as dramatic, but I still love it! However, it's a dormant and doesn't bloom as much for me in my warm climate as I'd like. But if dormants do well in your area it should be wonderful. And AMETHYST PRISM and AZURE PRISM are seedlings of TET TIME STOPPER, a daylily with huge blooms that I was totally taken with, so when I first saw them I just had to have them both. And AMETHYST PRISM is a little taller with blooms a little bigger than AZURE PRISM, which I also really like, but the blooms on AMETHYST are so huge and dramatic that I instantly fell in love with it. And it is just finishing its rebloom here, which is another characteristic I really like. It just brings a big smile to my face every time I see it.

I also like PIRATE'S PRISM, EMERALD PRISM and FEATHERED PRISM a lot too -- those blooms are never a disappointment! Oh yes, and PIKES PEAK too -- forgot about that one!

I just ordered another plant of PICOTEE PRISM through the Lily Auction (Abundantdaylilies) for my niece who lives in Iowa, and I know she's going to love it!

Here's why I love the prism daylilies -- very geometric!

That's a great looking seedling you have Becky. I would love to see what it crossed with Cretaceous Crunch or Munchy Crunchy would look like. I'd also like to see the offspring of Amethyst Prism X Dragon Fang or Emerald Prism X Spinefeld!

Daniel - Thanks! That would indeed be neat to see what it would look like with some teeth.

Ashton - Yes! I am sure some hybridizer somewhere has one getting ready for intro probably in 2016. I'll be interested to see it!

I was gone for a week and came back to check on the prisms-- sure are some really nice ones!

Betty, I love your enthusiasm for them and believe I am starting to share that. The geometric shape just gets me, too.

Anyone notice that it seems like most prisms are evergreen? I wonder why that is?

Living in the northern tundra I generally shy away from evergreens. The super size of the semi-evergreen Amethyst Prism makes it pretty much irresistible. Emerald Prism is also really fantastic, and I see that someone is growing it successfully in Maine so I think that makes my list!
Betty points out Picotee Prism is a dormant so will definitely check that one out more maybe it will grow on me and make the list! I can't I really get them all can I? Some touch choices coming up...

I’m afraid that my love for Navajo Princess will have to be from a distance.

I emailed Tom Keast, owner of Keast Daylily Gardens in Iowa (zone 5 I believe), about her and here is what he said:

“Navajo Princess is very tender here for us. After two cold open Winters we have all but lost it.”

Good to know. It would have been devastating to bring her here only to watch her die before my very eyes.

So now I’m down to Picotee Prism and Sulphurite Prism
