Hi everyone, I was browsing through the database and admiring these wonderful flowers, and I wondered which could be the "strangest" DL in the world, so I thought about asking. I hope there is not a thread already about this topic.
So, in your opinion, which is the strangest DL you ever seen? And why? Do you like it or not?
Pics are welcome!

Great thread!

This is the strangest one I've ever seen, and I LOVE it! I've only seen it in pictures though. It's on my "love to have" list!

Ken - Wow! What a strange bloom that produced!

The strangest thing that I have ever seen in my garden happened this year. A seedling blooming for the very first time.

The first bloom looked like this:

The second bloom looked like this:

Only 2 blooms on that seedling. I've never seen one change in color so drastically from the first bloom to the second bloom. I triple-checked and it IS the same plant!

I've seen similar color differences when photographing in different light or at different times of day. in fact I just put a blog up yesterday that shows some pictures of the same cultivars shot in different light. ( I think the link is in my signature. )

Julie - The first bloom got a darker yellow as the day went on. Whereas the second bloom paled out at the end of the day. Both were photographed in the early morning about the same time frame (before I went to work). The first one was definitely yellow because I was quite stunned and really liked it. But was shocked and disappointed when the following bloom had very little yellow on the petals. Weird, weird, weird.

It was the same plant. I checked and checked again. Boy! Was I disappointed. Confused Blinking Glare

There might have been a bit of a sunrise cast on the first bloom, but certainly not enough to make it a solid yellow bloom. Go figure ...

The only editing I did to both photos was cropping them. I didn't do anything to the color of each photograph.

I picked up some "potluck/mystery" daylilies at a garden club sale this spring. One was called "J&J" and I was told that it was a cultivar of these two guys. No idea if it was registered or not, but it was listed as pale pink, so I figured that they were literally giving them away for free so I bought 2 of that one plus a bunch of other mystery ones.

So this is from a double fan plant, wasn't more than 18 inches tall and seemed like it just couldn't get the petals to open up. All three flowers did the same thing. So not sure if it is a strange hybrid result or a result of being dug up and replanted and then blooming in the same year. I did a search online and there is a "J and J" registered, but doesn't look anything like this. Nothing else bloomed this year from the plants that I bought, so not sure what the other one will look like. Frankly if they look like this next year, they may be sent to the woods!!!

This DL was given to me this year, so this is not my photo, but it's definitely the strangest thing I have ever seen. I'm not sure if I even like it, but it's so unique!

Welcome, Mom2! Welcome!

@beckygardener - that is such a strange color jump!

@Natalie - I LOVE Undefinable, too! It's also on my want list. It isn't just splotchy, it's actually dotted and uniquely patterned on each flower, it seems.

I know that the bloom is supposed to look like that, which is why I LOVE it so much!

Since I don't follow the rules and use old varieties and species I get a few odd ones. I've posted photos of the striped one, I have a red that's just under five feet but I lost one in the shade years ago that I wish I had kept and used-can't find it now!

Really unique flowers here!
I wish I could find a potluck of Dls here.
They are not so famous here, few growers and little diffusion. I guess I'm one of the few italians that happens to know them.

Sabrina - Well, maybe you will inspire others to grow daylilies too! And then someone will sell them .... maybe even you .... to others in your country?! Thumbs up
