The only place I can find "Music of the Night" is on Hibbard's old site, but the site says that everything was being auctioned off in 2013 and not to contact them.

Only one person has posted any pictures of this daylily, so it doesn't seem to be something that many people have, but if you have it and you're willing to sell it, please let me know! If you know someone who is selling it, please let me know how to get in touch with them. I've never spent $50 for a daylily before, so I'm hoping to find it for less than it was originally selling for at Hibbard's, but I *may* still consider it if it is selling somewhere for about that price. Right now I just need to know who even has it.

Thank you!

There are some others that look very similar to this (very much so) that are cheaper and easy to find. Is there a reason you specifically want this one? the name? genetics? It is a pretty one.

Did you contact Rita (newyorkrita) to find out where she photographed the blooms at?

I didn't want to bug her since she doesn't have it listed as available for sale (or even listed at all, actually) in her plant list.

I'm sure that if there is a photo posted by Rita, it came from her own garden. I don't think she sells daylilies.

Maybe if I just tag Rita and let her decide if she wants to respond? Hmmm.. I'm guessing she has it because Hibbard, the hybridizer, was in New York, too. I don't know if the entire daylily farm has been sold off or if they still have it. It's strange that the website is still going after two years, though, if they sold it. Maybe I will contact them, with apologies, to see if their 'do not contact us' admonishment was simply for 2013 and has been rescinded now that time has passed?

You have nothing to lose to ask Rita. Maybe she knows where you could get a fan or two. Or maybe not. But you won't know unless you ask. Just tell her you saw her gorgeous photos and are looking for that cultivar and can't find it anywhere. Ask if she knows any place that might sell you a double fan. If she doesn't know, she will say so. Smiling

I'll send her a note on your behalf. I consider her a dear friend!

Natalie - thank you! Thank You! I don't know if it was because of your message to her or mine, but she did respond. It was funny, too, because she gave me a thumbs-up on a post in the Veggie and Fruit forum the moment RIGHT AFTER I sent her the message. Talk about strange, coincidental timing. I did a double-take at my System Messages because that was such weird timing, but atleast I knew she was online, so I stayed online to see if she might see my Tree-Mail and, sure enough, I received a response back from her! Hurray! So if it was more because you Tree-Mailed her, a big thanks to you! She confirmed that the original hybridizer's (Hibbard) farm is gone, so I really hope that I can get my hands on this cultivar before it becomes an extinct variety. Rita might be the only person who has it and knows she has it. (I'm sure other people have purchased it for their home gardens and have either forgotten the name and/or never intend to propagate and sell it).

Glad to hear you were able to correspond with Rita! Thumbs up

I often wonder how many - out of almost 80,000 cultivars registered on the AHS - are now extinct?

Good question. I have no idea, but it sounds like some of Hibbard's might be. I think "Baby Keith" and "Orphan Child" are because I've tried tracking those down online with no success; but then again, Google isn't perfect and not everyone with daylilies posts their cultivars online.
