I guess I am the first person to receive roots this year, so here they are...
I ordered 4 from Parkland Perennials - Alberta, Canada.
Etched Salmon
Red Charm
Old Faithful
Florence Nichols
I washed only two of them - Red Charm and Florence Nichols as it looks like I will be able to divide them more...Etched Salmon and Old Faithful are more tricky and see how they look like after cleaning tomorrow ( I prepared only 4 holes, so have to wait...)

I am in Toronto Ontario and asked to receive them before certain date.They arrived a little bit earlier than I expected. It is still hot in Toronto, but they have had a snow storm on 21 of August near Calgary this year....

Those look super nice, Alex! I see some huge eyes on there. I bet you are going to get blooms next year! Good luck!

I was able to divide Red Charm into two pieces - 6 and 4 buds and Florence Nichols into two pieces - 4 and 4++ ( small ones )buds. Good roots so far. I think Etched Salmon will look especially impressive after cleaning, but how I am going to divide it in a few years with crown like that? And Old Faithful root looks more like Itoh or tree hardened root....Interesting....I knew that those are not easy to propagate, but the trick is how!

Just to follow up - was able to divide Etched Salmon as well.

And cleaned Old faithful with about 30 eyes - a little bit less than half are big ones... Decided not to take chances on this one.

I second Karen's post, they look great, Alex! I think you'll be able to divide the other two in half as well; once they're cleaned off I bet you'll see a way. As big as they are now I think I'd try, that way you won't be digging a monster sized root up in a couple of years to divide it then!

Got roots from Gilbert Wild on Friday and La Pivoinerie D'Aoust yesterday! Haven't had time to get them out of the box, though, except to identify the BOGO's and separate the GO's for my sister to take home with her when they leave for Oklahoma tomorrow morning. They leave around 0600, by 0700 I'll have them photographed and start planting! Look for pictures here by tomorrow evening!

Roots are out of the box and in assorted containers to soak before taking pics and planting! Ipad is charging, too, hopefully it'll be good by the time I want to start with photos....Sure do wish Gilbert Wild would put a tag on the peony root instead of just labeling the bag. Makes it hard to soak them all and keep the names straight. I had to scrounge suitable containers all over the house to get them done at the same time.
Only damage was to one from La Pivoinerie D'Aoust, Madame Emile Galle has tons of eyes but only one feeder root is still attached. Don't know how many were attached when it was shipped because there seem to be too many detached roots to all belong to the one....I'll plant it anyway, of course, but was wondering if I should cut off part of the crown with the eyes. What do you all think?

IMHO one should make as less damage to the roots as possible unless you want to divide them...But this observation is based on common sense, not experience....

I would leave it as is and plant what you have there. Less manipulation at this point it would make sense to me. But do let us know what you decide.

I left them there. Figured if there wasn't enough feeder root then some of the eyes wouldn't grow.

So here's what I got, Gilbert Wild first. The name stake with each root is 10" long for comparison.

La Pivoinerie D'Aoust were significantly bigger than GW but the price was 3 times as much, too. Very happy with the roots I got, even the broken one was bigger than most sellers. And they sent a bonus root, Zuzu! I'll certainly order from them again, found some that I've wanted for quite a while.

Attar of Roses - those dark spots - did you treat roots with something and if not, were they soft to the touch?

No, they weren't soft. Think it was just my Ipad and the lighting conditions, they looked great.

Received an e-mail from Adelman saying my P.tenuifolia rosea had been shipped. They had them for $30 this Spring. I had forgotten all about ordering it. Must be hardening of the arteries.

I also receive notifications from Adelman and Gilbert Wild that my peony roots are shipped. So excited! I also ordered the Rosea Tenufolia peony. Hope it will bloom next spring.

It is very iffy to bloom the first year. If it should bloom the first year, clip the blossom (s) as quickly as you see them in order to provide more vigor for the second year. Do not leave them to form seed pods.

I wish I have your discipline, Jerry. But if the plant gives me a bloom, I just can't bring myself to clip it. I really need to see its flower esp. the first year.

The species and subspecies fern leafs are slow to multiply. I try to help them as much as possible. For me, it is just like pulling a band-aid off a wound. Just grit your teeth and go for it.

All of the roots had at least 3 eyes on them, which may not show in my photos.
One has 4 or 5 but I can not see how to divide it.
It will be planted as it is, because I would damage it if I tried to divide it further.
