Plumeria (Plumeria rubra 'Scott Pratt')

Please correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that the Scott Pratt is the ultimate historical plumeria variety in America. It was the first plumeria registered by the PSA. Enough history. This plant is a vigorous grower, a great bloomer, and (for a red) is easy to root.

Scott Pratt was registered #93 in PSA so depending on how many they registered when it was first established, that this is a historic plumeria Ken

Maybe I will trade one of my special one for this Ken, if I ever learn to packnship anything

# 93 (for an unfathomable reason) was actually the first plant registered..... I'd love to know who decided to reserve # 1-92 for something else.... and what that is.

PackNship is easy and plumeria are about the easiest of all plants to ship. I am always up for a trade, Gigi. I have some wonderful Scott Pratt, all "babies" from my 25+ year old plant. I think I even have an inflo or two.

I often wondered by #93 was the first registered and sort of doubted I had my information correct. I even emailed PSA and asked them why #93 was the first number used, but I never got a reply. No surprise there.

I guess I am an odd-ball, but I still prefer the older, more simple colors to many of those "gaudy" colored ones. I think the "heirloom" plants grow better, root better, and bloom better. But what do I know.

Ken, how come you don't have a photo of Scott Pratt on the database? You should add a pic and local report.

I did put in a local report, just yesterday in fact. At least I thought I did. I thought there was already a picture(s) in the database.

We are happy to have more than one picture, especially from different growing areas.

Oh, sorry. Since it was so difficult putting my orchids in the database (well, it was impossible), I just never think about putting a picture there. Someone has to remind me to do so for me to do it. I will try to get better doing this. Y'all might have to nudge me occasionally.

It's been a long time since I've posted. A lot has happened. I moved about two months ago. My parents live with us now. My dad has been ill. It's been hard, but it is a new beginning.

Last week I brought all my plumerias to our new home. Some, I pulled from the ground, others I took cuttings. Luckily, I have a bigger backyard than before.

When I went to our former home, I could not believe it- my Scott Pratt had its first inflorescence. I had waited three years to see this happen.

... and here I was, ready to pull it from the ground. :crying:

Anyway. It's done. I was not going to leave it behind.

It's been a week, it lost most of its older leaves, some of the buds. But it looks like it's going to make it. If some of the blooms open up, I'll post pictures.

it should make it. I have not pulled anything from the ground but I've repotted blooming plants before and they do fine.

We definitely would love to see the bloom and you can add it to the database.

Welcome back. I had a 6 ft tall plumeria with an inflo break off at the base last week. I cut off all the leaves and replanted it (now as a cutting) and it's now blooming.... so there's hope!

Hi Hetty, how should I handle the leaves? Do you pull them or cut them off?

Clip off with scissors or pruners, leaving about 1 inch of the stem.
Pulling them off may leave 'wounds' on the stem.

This is week two... I think it's doing good.

I have one SP in bloom and possibly others. I have several large, healthy plants.

After an incredibly long week, this,is what I came home to:



My Scott Pratt opened a bloom!

I am amazed at how well it survived the transplant and how much it likes the place I planted it in my new home.

I had to use a blue tint on the picture to approximate what I'm looking at in real life. The flower look shot pink in the picture instead of the almost wine color it has.

I'll snap another pic in the morning to see if my phone does it justice.

But of course I'm giddy, as I waited three years for this, and just had to share!!!!
