I have this one grafted tree and it is one of my favorites. So I thought I would duplicate it and graft some scions onto one of my older seedlings.

This is the grafted tree with 3 scions added. One is struggling a bit.



It is quite something, this grafting. This is the nice part about having many seedlings to experiment with.

So you will have three different flowers on the one root-stock plant?

Ken. I will have three branches with all the same bloom. Triple Twilight.

I am not a big fan of mutiple blooms of different colors. Only if I can get colors that compliment each other and/or bloom at the relatively the same time.

This tree TT has always been a favorite of mine, in part that it was one of my first grafted trees and I really do enjoy it's bloom.

Your Triple Twilight bloom is gorgeous! Soon you will have another TT tree to enjoy. Hope the struggling scion makes it.

Since I had been planning to try my hand at grafting, I watched several demo's on YouTube. I will try both the flat and the wedge grafts on different root stocks. Several of my seedling root stocks are awaiting Rinoa's grafted plant branches to grow bigger for the unions.

It is so much fun growing adeniums from seed!

I do very much enjoy growing them from seed and will continue, but I wanted to enjoy particular blooms that I had seen. That is why I started buying some from Rinoa.
I wanted to have some more mature plants to start with and not have to wait too long to have a large specimen. After all, unless you are a youngster, you would never get to enjoy a really,large tree.

Rick ... I hope this gives you a laugh.

Ralph Moore, was a prolific rose breeder and often would run out of root stock to use for testing of his seedlings that he wanted to bring forward, so he would graft them to many of the mature roses at the nursery so he didn't have to wait for more root stock.

It was a hoot to visit the nursery and see twenty or more new roses grafted all over one mature rose plant.

Of course, his goals were different than yours, but the results were truly something to see.

I hope your grafts take and you get to enjoy your plants.

Lyn @RoseBlush1, Ralph Moore's rose plant with the graft unions of several different roses certainly would be a sight to see!

Ralph's nursery was his play house and he played with all kinds of plants until he was 100 years old.

I think Rick, @RCanada, has the right idea to graft a plant that he loves to bring it forward faster so that he has time to enjoy it.

Thanks Lyn, for the Ralph's Nursery story. It definitely would be a sight to take in. Love roses too. My new grafts are coming along swell. The one particular bloom I have is one of my favorites and I want to have a second, just in case something was to happen to one. Will have the other one.

Katie, Your seedlings look very nice with the plump caudex's on them. I always have to wait here and do in the summer, as they need some warmth and humidity to do best.

This tree I grew from seed last year is on its second flush...same long-lasting blooms as before. She will be a scion volunteer for graft union.



Rick, this tree is quite weird, though. Her branches have "thorns!" They aren't sharp or pokey, but none of my other plants have this funkiness. Have you ever seen this on an adenium?

Yes, they are in the leaf nodes. I just now looked at the tree again...there are spikes on both sides of the leaves that are still growing on the tree. I will say it again...these trees are awesome to grow from seed.

I'm finding more seed pods on m addeniums. Do I leave them on until they turn brown (assuming the seeds are ready to plant) or do I wait until the pods drop off ? I've taken cuttings when they've become leggy -- and they're doing find and have been blooming. I would like to see the caux though and not wait a few years. So, when do I plant the seeds. I know nothing about this.

That's cool, KD, and I have never seen this before on any Adenium.

@orchidgal You posted the same question on another thread and several people responded. Maybe you missed it? The thread "new babies" in Adeniums forum
Regards rooted cuttings: a caudex will not form above ground. Eventually and after several years, it will grow a fat caudex below ground. Adeniums grown from seed will develop very nice showy caudexes within a year depending on the care given.

I did miss the thread "new babies" - thanks for pointing it out. I need to tie the remaining pods up first thing in the morning. Lost one lot already; blown away in the wind I guess.
Meanwhile, I have some healthy cuttings that have bloomed already; so if they form a caudex below ground, can you lift the plant up sometime to expose the caudex, or would that kill it ?
