CLOSED: Thank you, I purchased the camera I wanted! (December 2015)


First of all: I have @dave 's previous approval to post this thread.
Second: I will pay for the camera and shipping costs to Chile.

I bought this camera several years ago (refurbished) and really love it. Unfortunately, last december it was stolen from my car's trunk. Early this year I purchased a second hand Kodak Z712 from eBay, thinking it was a newer/improved model, but it is not. Besides, the seller was not honest and the camera is not in 'mint condition' as he stated. I don't seem to be able to shoot a good picture with this camera and would love to have a Z710 again.

If you have a Kodak Z710 (or a very similar camera) and want to sell it, please contact me. I have a PayPal account and the funds to pay for it.

I think I had one maybe in 2007/08 or before, it was a good camera for close ups. Sorry, long gone.

I think it was 2007 when I purchased mine. It's a wonderful camera for somebody without professional photographer skills.

I thought I would post here today to say this thread is closed, but .....

On Nov. 11 I won an eBay auction for the desired camera. Before bidding, I asked if the camera (looked great in the pictures) was fully operative and the Seller confirmed this to be the case. I paid nothing less than US$53 for postage (arrived 12 days later - a Courier would have been faster and probably cheaper, but there was no option) and the only thing the camera does when I turn it on is flip open the flash. That's all - nothing else (I changed the battery to see if that was the problem, but no).

The camera looks as if it were brand new although it came without any accesory. This was OK with me, since I have all the accesories (cables, booklets, etc) from my camera that was stolen.

I am requesting a full refund from the Seller (Goodwill Industries from Northern New England) - I feel so frustrated .....

What a terrible experience you've had with trying to find this camera, Ursula. I'm sorry it has been such. I've seen the Z710 on Amazon, but it is almost $400. Shocking price, considering how old that model is.

Thanks Vickie, I have been checking Amazon as well. I won't give up, but the price for a new one on Amazon is far more than I am willing to pay and they don't seem to ship abroad.

What I love about this camera is that it is quite simple to use and that it has a view finder, not only the option to see what you will photograph on the screen. This is important for me, because of the damage on my hands (arthrosis). When I had a camera without it, all pictures came out of focus. Being able to press the camera against my nose provides the necessary stability

Ursula, I know you would like to stick with the Kodak Z710 because you have the accessories and all, but have you checked out some of the newer cameras that may have the features you like? I'm not sure what price point you are wanting to stay within. I looked at a lot of camera reviews before I bought my first digital camera and still wish I had my very first Canon S1IS in 2004. I miss it but the CCD sensor went bad. I know this defeats the purpose of your search, so just tell me to shut up if you are set on the Z710

Believe it or not, it was your thread the one that reassured me I do not need to upgrade to anything fancier than my stolen Kodak Z710 (I understand the only difference between your Z740 and the Z710, are the megapixels 4 & 7) - I'm not even a skilled photographer as you are! But, from time to time I obtained some really good pictures

The eBay seller has not responded to my claim. A friend that travels often to Santiago (I live at the countryside) offered to take the camera to Kodak to have it checked. Maybe it is a minor problem ..... Although the camera had no accesories at all (cables, etc), it looks as if it were brand new and I got it for US$ 14.76 (plus the exaggerated US$53 for shipping from USA to Chile). I don't know if the Seller would have to refund the shipping expenses as well in case eBay favours me, so maybe it´s not a bad idea to get a repair quotation from Kodak-Chile or whomever is their repair shop.

What do you think?

That's the one I had, the Z740, I loved it.

UPDATE: It seems I have a working camera!

The eBay Seller gave me a partial refund and my friend took the camera to Santiago. He will bring it back tomorrow - apparently the problem was minor and required no spare parts (he didn't want to tell me the whole story on the phone). I can hardly wait to put my hands and right eye on it!

Well, my friend/neighbour/Vet was here and brought the camera: it is BRAND NEW (only 9 pictures had been taken!). He did not want to tell me if the repair had any cost - he said he just wanted to see me smiling again (he put my Rory to sleep a bit over a month ago). The camera will certainly not replace Rory, but will re-direct my attention. It's sooo good to have my Z710 again after a whole year!

That's just wonderful, Ursula! Can't wait to see pictures taken with your new camera.
