Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Eight Miles High')

I have this daylily for about 3 years. It is not a vigorous grower for me. After 3 years, there are only 4 fans. The flowers are never the deep intense purple for me and the white teeth hardly show. Also, it gives only a scant amount of scapes and flowers. Sorry for the negative opinion. Hope others will have a better growing experience with this daylily.

A few years back I acquired one spindly fan of 'Eight Miles High' on the Lilyauction. It struggled the first year, didn't bloom. It put up a scape with three blooms the second year. Third year, it put on another puny fan. It just wasn't growing well, so I moved it. It put on another fan and bloomed, but I don' t remember how many. This year it bloomed with about eight blooms and then immediately developed crown rot and died very quickly. In my opinion it is a very poor plant with beautiful blooms. A BIG disappointment for me!

Eight Miles High has grown here since the first year it was introduced. In fact, that second picture that Becky posted was from my garden.

It seems to like it here, and some days will put on quite a show. If you look closely at that second picture, you will notice that it needed scape support to hold all those beautiful blooms that particular day.

I will keep it as long as it continues to bloom. It happens to be one of the parents of Clown Pants, so I feel it has earned a place here, and may have a whole lot more to show me.

I have grown Eight Miles High for several years. I have found it to be very hardy in my zone 6b but inconsistent as far as the blooms go. Sometimes they are outstanding but there are a lot of ugly blooms. The color is consistent and the teeth are always there but there are spotty and misshapen blooms more than I like to see.

I purchased Eight Miles High in 2014 as a double fan. It produced 2 more fans in 2015. A great bloomer here. Some were poly blooms and very toothy!
