The threat to Houston comes tonight. We need the water but sheesh!

A friend that lives a little north of Dallas had a heck of a storm this morning already. I have everything buttoned down here

Yes, a lot of damage has occurred so far up north. They've increased it from 10"-12.5" forecast. Stay safe. Stay indoors!

I'm sorry to hear Dallas is having such a rough time. So far here the rain is going either north or south of us and looks like that will be the continuing pattern.

Keeping seeing the weather and torrential rains up Noth and East. Still nothing down here. They keep saying it's our turn, but it winds up going around. We are forecasted for some light storms in the early morning hours, but nothing like the original forecast of flood threats and large hail. We could use the rain, but I'm not minding one bit that it's going around. I don't think I want the hail or flooding.

In the wee hours, it sounded like we were getting a lot of rain but only a little over an inch. The thunder was louder than I've heard in years, lol

Lots of wind and thunder but not much rain here.

Woke up to my greenhouse completely blown over...it was in the front yard so it had actually lifted up and went over my fence. Had plants strewn from the road all over the yard. I was out all morning trying to pick up what I could before the next round of storms came through. Sigh...I worked so hard to keep that going all winter and now I'm not sure I can even put it back up. A very depressing morning... And now I just had a crack over the house that sounded like it was in the house...

Oh Kim, I'm so sorry that happened. Wish we were already in Seguin, I would come help. Did the greenhouse survive, did you get you plants back together?

The plastic cover on the greenhouse is torn up, after this deluge is over I can go out and see how bad it is. I think mostly because it went over the chainlink fence. The frame needs tightening up (it's aluminum with bolts and wing nut screws) but otherwise I think it is ok. Right now it's leaned up against the back of the house, hoping it doesn't try to take off again. The plants are all over my back porch right now, but I think they faired ok. A lot of repotting will be in order.

Funny thing is, I had another greenhouse similar to this one when I lived in Bryan. Had it up for 5 years, secured the same way, and even through the remnants of two hurricanes it didn't blow over. Going to have to do some thinking on this one before trying to put anything back up.

As for the water...it's not as bad as up by my parents. They are having trouble getting anywhere, water all over the roads and bridges , and the pastures around them look like lakes right now. Piddly compared to what I have here, although the holes left after we pulled those nandinas are full of water at the moment.

Thanks, Jolana! We ended up getting more than they thought. Crazy loud thunder, lots of lightning, and it's been pouring all day. Went home on lunch to check on my greenhouse on lunch. Luckily everything was fine--which is surprising with the winds. So sorry Kim! That's terrible!

The storms split off and missed Houston entirely! Feel lucky to get the 1-1/2" of rain that we got. I can't believe the weatherman predicted 12"! I've said it before and I'll say it again, "next time, I'll believe i when i see it! "

@blueeyes So sorry to see that your greenhouse blew over. We took our hoophouse along the fence line down about a week ago.

Last night there was quite a storm here. Blowing rain and lots of thunder and lightning after midnight. We really thought it was going around us. On the radar, it showed Austin sitting in a 3-sided open cube. The bad weather was on three sides of us, but we were only getting a little sprinkle. Then we went to bed and the storm rolled in! I got up twice to see if it was hailing. DH got up later to check if the courtyard was flooding. I've never noticed the weather app on my phone flashing a message, "Lightning strike 1 mile from location," before. It's raining again, but nothing like last night.

Finally stopped raining here. Round 2 is supposed to start around 6:45 tonight, but isn't supposed to be as bad as earlier. Our fields are lakes, and I'm sure there are a lot of people that are glad they built up their houses. It's so flat down here, there's nowhere for the water to go when there's that much so quickly.

James - that sounds like what my parents described, they are south of Waco. They said there were pastures turned into lakes, poor cows stuck on small islands with rising water. Very sad situation. Lots of roads closed, bridges flooded. My mom works in a hospital and goes in at night, so I'm hoping it tails off up there soon. I worry about them traveling in this weather when it's dark.

Kim, here's how I have my two greenhouses anchored. The photos are of the one I built last Nov but the one I put together in 2014 is anchored the same. I used 3' T-Posts and drove them in as far as I could which usually came to about 18-20" in the soil I have here. I used 3 posts per side one on each end and one in the middle. Then two cables per post run through the hole in the post with the cable clamp. I can't remember exactly what size cable I used or clamps but you can use what you want as long as it fits through the holes on the T-Posts.

Chris, I had to do something similar to this, because basic anchors on the "portable" greenhouses do absolutely nothing when put into our soil (sand), but of course, I wasn't smart enough to use really long T-Posts, so I still get nervous in strong storms.

I can imagine a 6' post would have worked don't you think? Right now I'm using 10" plastic stakes that I've got driven in about 8 1/2" that I've got my shade cloth anchored to with nylon rope. It seems to be holding up pretty good. I haven't noticed it flapping around or anything. I've got it anchored to 4 stakes on each side.

It was dry all day while i worked getting plants out of the gh. I was about to blow off the patio of all the pine "worms" and the light rain started. I stayed outside for another 1-1/2 hrs until the sky opened up and some big thunder boomers and lightening. We're not getting it in Houston as bad as others in the path of the storm. In fact, my gf 5 miles away got way more rain than we did. Houston are is so large totalb rainfall well vary. But there are more flood warnings for tonight. All but 6 of my very largest pots are getting a good drink now.

I'd like to set a lot of my plants out of the greenhouse but I'm afraid they'd get blown over when a storm passes by but my Brugs and Bougainvilleas could sure use the rain. Problem is I'd have to empty out most all of the one greenhouse to get to them. Guess I could set my Oleanders out tomorrow and hope they don't blow over.
