Background history:

'Blue-breasted Bee-eater' is a semi-evergreen tetraploid introduced in 2011 by Ludlow Lambertson. Ludlow and his wife, Rachel, hybridize daylilies at "Art Gallery Gardens" in Lake Helen, Florida. See their website at: http://www.artgallerygardens.c...

Blue-breasted Bee-eater is an early to mid-season bloomer with possible rebloom. It is pod fertile with currently 3 registered children: http://garden.org/plants/paren...

This plant can be found in the NGA Plant Database at:
Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Blue-breasted Bee-eater') .

Please join in, if you own this plant! We would love to know more! I award an acorn for performance information posted to this thread.

Also, please consider adding a "Local Report" to the NGA Plant Database! Thank you!

I've had Blue Breasted Bee Eater for 2 years now. In this humid, extreme heat of the Texas gulf coast, this daylily has survived, bloomed, and rebloomed. Where rust is ALWAYS a problem, this plant still performs. I like it.

Does anyone else have comments on this one? I planted it this spring so would like to know how it does in the north.

Outstanding choice Becky!! I love Lambertson's intro's and have what the "normal folks" crowd would probably say is too many. That whole normal crowd has a problem thinking I have a daylily problem anyway, so I don't pay them much mind. I don't have Blue-Breasted Bee-Eater and would be curious to know how this one does in the North. That being said, I probably have 20 or more of Lambertson's intros and despite living in Missouri where Freeze/Thaw Winters are the norm, these Florida flowers have been real troopers here. The one exception being painted pattern which will say tolerates the Winter weather here. Still have no regrets with it, always have mulch and a heavy rock or too if needed. Also, thanks for reminding me I need to start on the current "got to have" list. lol

This was one of my favorites added this spring. It bloomed within a few weeks and I loved it. I only had a few blooms as this was the first season in my garden, but I'm looking to add more. It was a huge flower with substance. I won two fans on the Lily Auction and I see a small new fan peeking out between the two mature fans.
