in mid october i planted 'autumn explosion', that i acquired from our local iris society auction. it is trying to bloom. here's a shot of the stalk. i hope to post actual pics of the flowers in the next few weeks. the stalk happened during the two weeks we were in florida.

BB Code:

i will post my photo later. for some reason the camera/phone is being uncooperative in transmitting the photo to my ipad. so i can post my pic that i took this morning.

I was out taking down Christmas lights this morning and walked around to where I'd put in some dwarf Iris's that were given to me in 2014 and to my surprise

here's the photo of the iris stalk i was trying to upload with the initial post.

a hint of color on one of the lower buds that's not visible from this angle. it's been rather chilly for us.....daytime high is just 59 deg. hopefully, we'll see it bloom by next week? 'ae' is considered a re.

when i planted the rhizome this fall, it looked as though something had been munching at the top. now, the wound has turned dark, and there's still an indent to trap moisture. i guess i have to keep a more watchful eye on it since weve been having showers every other day or so.

Daphne, I'd scrape that wound to see what's going on.. If it's rot, you don't want it getting to the increases.

I had several stalks poking us, but it's been so cold and wet, I'm sure they're mush by now. Haven't had a chance to get out to the garden other than to get wood and dig some ditches (river of mud and woodchips running through my carport Glare )
The surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that it has never tried to contact us.

Hang in there Sherry! There's a reported 4-8 inches of rain coming to the Santa Cruz mountains this weekend. (We're supposed to get another 2-4 inches.)

It's also going to rain all next week.

The long-range forecast for us is a lot more rain all month, I really can't complain, We've
prayed for it for so long. I just hope the irises hang in there. They look good so far.

I heard on the radio that CA reservoirs (maybe just those in N CA? ) - are at 53% of full.

I'm not complaining either, but it's going to ugly this weekend. Stay safe and stay dry. Group hug

I think my other blooms stalks must have froze. They've stopped growing and the flower buds are turning brown.

We've got our firewood in for this rainy period ahead. It's cold, but not freezing today.
