I found that this daylily didn't have a comment from when it was Daylily of the Day thanks to DeweyRooter's post listing plants without comments on their DoD post. Thanks, Nan! Also, "interesting" fact, when I typed DeweyRooter, I realized all 10 letters other than the D are on the top row of the QWERTY keyboard. Felt kinda weird typing that long up there!
So, back to Boss Lady, she's a tall pale pink daylily with a lighter pink watermark that gradually fades into the pink petals. When I bought her, I was thinking she would be like a pinker White Eyes Pink Dragon, but she's really not. Her gradually fading watermark softens her look a lot. I do think they are registered with similar stats. Boss Lady at 40", WEPD at 38". Both about 25 blooms per scape, and WEPD at 5 branches compared to 4 for Boss Lady.
My Boss Lady is in a location where a neighbor's volunteer yew is starting to steal more and more sunlight from her every year. When I first got her, I still didn't get 25 blooms per scape, but in good years I could get 10 to 15, typically. And my Boss Lady, even in bad conditions, is more than two inches taller than my WEPD. I think it's because my WEPD runs shorter in my garden. Boss Lady also has a more whimsical look than WEPD, showing her curls on most blooms, and showing many different looks over a summer.
Here's one of those looks from my garden:
I haven't done a lot of crosses with Boss Lady, but here are three siblings from Aaron Brown x Boss Lady
