Can anyone tell me the differences between these two varieties?

I had 'Painted Lady' back in the late 90s and adored it -- but killed the plant. I've been searching for an online source to replace it for years. Finally managed to buy a supposed 'Painted Lady' off ebay in 2015, but it turned out to be just mottled green (I was assured that it would "turn yellow" once the fertilizer was used up, but of course it didn't).

So anyway, I was just getting ready to order a 'Rising Sun' as a second-choice consolation prize when I accidentally found an online source for the REAL 'Painted Lady' last night. Two different sources, but the plants are the same price.

So -- are there any notable differences between these two? Maybe I need both of them? ;-)

When doing a Google Search I only found one photo of 'Rising Sun' (at the Brian's Botanical's site) and it did look a lot like the many on-line photos shown of 'Painted Lady'.

Our database shows the parentage for Philodendron 'Painted Lady' as P. 'Burgundy' and P. 'Emerald Queen' and a Google search for 'Painted Lady' returns with a lot of photos: http://www.google.com/search?q... One site stated that 'Painted Lady' has pink stems with leaves that start out Neon Yellow and fade to a deeper green with heavy mottling. Another site says that leaves start out entirely yellow with small speckles. I wonder if different light intensities would have any affect on leaf coloration?

There is no mention of parentage for Philodendron 'Rising Sun' in our database and I couldn't find anything regarding parentage or photos upon doing a google search. I did find one vendor who stated it was named by Brian's Botanicals years ago and his website has a photo but no description listed: http://briansbotanicals.us/ind...

I would think that you could email Brian at Brian's Botanicals for the history of 'Rising Sun', as - if I remember correctly - he was the one who named and introduced it; not as a hybrid of his own, but as a plant that came to him in an order he received from somewhere, but was not whatever it was supposed to be. After unsuccessfully trying to determine its true identity, he named it. That is of course assuming I'm thinking of the correct philodendron and not confusing it with another.

I did order a new 'Painted Lady' from NSE Tropicals over the weekend, and I'm looking forward to having it again. But I keep wondering whether it would be worthwhile to also have 'Rising Sun' -- it looks beautiful too! :-)

P. 'Painted Lady' has distinctive red stems, and it is very mottled , while 'Rising Sun' has cleaner yellow look , not as mottled. and it has plain stems.

I have ended up buying both varieties -- both 'Painted Lady' and 'Rising Sun' -- just because I was curious. Right now they appear very similar, except that 'Rising Sun' has larger leaves. But anyone who grows philodendrons knows how much growing conditions, age of the vines being cut, and so on can affect their appearance, so that is far from diagnostic.

Once I've had both plants growing in the same conditions for at least several weeks (or months), I'll post comparison photos so we can get a better idea of whether they're actually substantially different or not.
