I bought Calico Jack as a potted single fan in late summer 2014. It has come through three winters just fine, but it is still a single fan. I have noticed that some evergreens take a few years to get going and multiply in my northern garden and I hope this is the case with this one. The fan it has looks great, and it has bloomed both in 2015 and 2016. My camera has trouble capturing yellow, and this is a brighter yellow than is shown here, but this photo was taken late in the day, so the yellow had mellowed and was not as bright as some of the photos here.

Bought a dbl. fan 5 years ago and still have a double fan! Looks ok, blooms ok but simply will not multiply! I too am in Ontario and who knows, maybe it just doesn't like it this far north.

@bearsearch if you like the looks of this, you might try Desperado or Desperado Love or Wild Horses, I have grown all 3 in zone 5 and they multiplied well, and bloomed alot.

Thanks! I have Desperado and it does well. I thought I had Wild Horses but it turned out to be something else so I bought it again this spring from a more reliable source. I'm thinking I should move Calico Jack to a different spot to see if it just doesn't like where it's planted. I moved a couple others last fall that weren't performing and already this spring some have grown new fans and are larger plants!
