I have a small wooden end table that I want to modge podge with clippings from an old garden catalog, it is black and white like a newspaper. I am worried that the ink my run/smear. Has anyone used newspapers to modge podge with? and any advice first! Thank you!

I haven't tried newspaper and mod podge. I hope someone has. I'd think it might smear or run since the ink smudges on my fingers whenever I read a paper.

I never have either. I, too, hope someone comes along with an answer.

not helpful at all Hilarious!

Cute idea though to use the comics section, but nada on whether the ink smears. I guess it did not smear for her. Shrug! I suppose I will just have to set up a practice run and report back. I tip my hat to you.

It looked like it probably worked for her, but a test is the best way to go. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I wonder if something like Fixatif would help prevent smudging?

Interesting product! It looks like it'd be worth some experiments. Thanks for posting, woofie.

The guys in the drafting department where I used to work used that stuff to prevent their schematics and assembly drawings from getting smeared. It does erase, though, so I'm not sure if it would work for this application. It was just the first thing that came to mind. Smiling

I tried this DIY with an old wooden table and a chair, and it worked. It didn't smudge or anything but however, I didn't like the finished result. Now I got a brand new furniture from gardencentreshopping.co.uk and I would like to try other DIYs. What else can I do to my outdoor furniture to spice it up and to make it look more artisanal? I really like doing such projects, and now that I have plenty of time because we all are at home, I want to play around with it. Besides mod podge and newspaper, what else can you recommend?

Maybe I didn't do it too accurately, but I didn't like the finished result. It wasn't that bad, just not for my taste. In the magazine, I saw it it looked much better.

It always frustrates me when I try something from a magazine or whatever and mine doesn't turn out like theirs...

I used the newspaper but I didn't like the result. In the end, I just covered the table with wax and repainted it with a special gun turned out beautiful as for me stains on it.

I realize this is an old thread but I just happened to stumble upon it. I used modge podge for a door prize I was making for my local daylily club. I used photos from Birds N Blooms which had a glossy sheen. Have never tried it with black and white photos, but it did work out well for the photos I used. I used a marine sealant when all the photos were dried. Not sure how it held up if the winner put it outside, but looking back at my photo from 2016 I might think of making one for myself!

Frilly....did you ever complete the project? If so, how did it turn out using the black and white photos?

I agree! It's just gorgeous! You definitely should make more of them. I may have to file that idea away. It takes a while for me to finally get to a project, but this one is something I'd love to try.

I never did it cause I am a big chicken, your chair is FANTASTIC! I do think the glossy paper would be nice to work with. The newspaper like material would probably just smear and get mushy.
