Today's plant of the day for Sempervivum is Hen and Chick (Sempervivum 'Positively Glowing').

This plant can be found in our Plant Database at:

Lynn do you know how to move Melissa's photos and mine from the chat and photos thread to this one. I tried but no success.

I managed to find this within the chat:

MelissaHopper said:... I have two pots of Positively Glowing.

This is the pot holding the "parent" plant that I got from Young's Nursery.

And this pot holds plants that were babies from the above plant.

These pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago. They were taken at the same time, within minutes of each other and in the same location. They sit next to each other. Both plants have been raised under identical conditions. Same dirt, same amount of sun, water, etc....

And managed to find this right after from JoAnn:

It really looked like this. I took about a dozen pictures to get the color just right

I have a total of 3 pots of Positively Glowing (hereinafter to be called PG) and this is #3, taken just a few minutes ago.

You get a bonus of genuine Oregon raindrops in this one.

This is definitely one of my favorites but I still haven't gotten that brilliant color like in Kevin's picture.

I got my PG from Youngs in 2016 and this is how it has progressed for me.

This is my #2 pot of PG and is the offspring of #1. I haven't been tracking it like I have #1 so only have a couple of pictures worth anything.

I've got quite a few seedlings from 'Positively Glowing' and many of them are also very bright. Am working them with different shades of red and crossed to the very persistent red 'Big Six-O' to see if I can't get the brightest colors 24/7/ 365. Also trying to get bigger ones.

In my yard I get the best color with a LITTLE shade but not too much.

I will have to work on that little shade thing. Mine are currently in full sun for most of the day. But since they are in pots, they are easy to move to other locations. I have several spots in the yard scoped out for some of the plants next spring and summer.

I so love all the different colors and looks that PG goes through. And the rosettes get to be a pretty good size. My big rosettes are 6 inches across.
