Larry, sorry I misunderstood. I'm not sure about the winters there, but they seem like "spring" up here comparatively. Our winters here can be brutal (-14 here last week). Snow cover is helpful for protection against thawing & re-freezing. I get some rust here and there on some but nothing serious, and I haven't seen any on Todd M. I use a mild spray of sulfur water (natural) for protection on many perennials, and this helps.
These pictures are from a few years ago showing how they're planted in my gardens. I've got them all over the place it seems.This should give an idea of the health of the plants. Hope this helps somewhat.
@Scatterbrain Nikki, I agree with your color assessments. Some of the catalog pictures are very different than the actual blooms of many varieties. Notably, Siloam Merle Kent, Strawberry Candy, Elegant Candy & Daring Dilemma. At least that is my view. And the color buff is also a matter of opinion. This is not to criticize, but only a personal observation.
