Star Child is one of our prettiest small flowered daylilies. This was a passalong plant that was doing poorly in upstate New York, so it was sent here. We received it about six or seven years ago, and thought we had a pretty good space for it. Evidently, we were wrong, for it kind of sat around for a couple of years with not much to show. When it was moved to a new space with morning sun and mostly sun until mid-afternoon, it really picked up. In 2016 it had its largest bloom and I used the pollen to do crosses. Perhaps that is why it did not bloom as well in 2017. I did no crosses last year, so we will see if the bloom picks up. It usually blooms very well for about a month or so, and then that's it, I have never seen any rebloom after that.

This is a really good plant for me here in the UK. It is my favourite daylily in my whole garden. It is grown in a very large pot in dappled shade in my sheltered north-facing garden in Northern England. It flowers well for me and increases well. Has been divided several times.

I think maybe the smaller ones benefit from being grown in containers as when I have tried them in the ground they don't seem to do as well, maybe there is too much competition from weeds, couch grass, mice etc.

It is a soft lavender purple here and the eye is blue here but it is definitely the right cultivar as one year we had very hot weather and it lightened up to the pink with chalky eye that the other photos show. A very pretty plant.

Easily fertile both ways here even in heavy rain. Can't comment on rebloom as nothing reblooms here, our growing season is just too short.

I have had this plant for several years and it does fine for me in my zone 4 conditions. It is growing in the ground and has not been treated any differently than the other daylilies in the same bed. It is very pod fertile for me. I like it very much.

Maurice,

How is the bud count on this one in your garden? I am in Zone 5 and I have heard some mixed reviews.

I got this one fall of 2016, it bloomed last year for the first time. The blooms were beautiful, exactly what I expected from photos. I'm not crazy about smaller flowered daylilies, but this one I like, I do need to move it where I can enjoy it closer, for some reason I planted it behind a couple of taller plants. It rebloomed last year, not a lot of buds 1st or 2nd bloom, but I'm hoping for better this year.
