We bought a house a couple weeks ago and the previous owner said this was clematis. That doesn't seem to be accurate. Any guesses? It hasn't bloomed yet this year as far as I can tell. Thanks!

Actually it seems to be blooming now, but I still don't know what it is.

Are you sure it's not Clematis terniflora/Sweet Autumn Clematis?

Maybe? I'll go out today and see if there's a part I can pull away from the rest to get a good look/picture.

Here are some more pics. It looks like all the green growth is draped over previous years growth.

I know nothing about IDing plants but it immediately reminded me of jasmine. I would look into plants related to jasmine if I were you! (In fact, I actually will and will update if I find anything!)

Honestly that was my first thought too! I didn't stop to smell it though, we had a lot of rain today.

The number of petals is wrong though - I guess when more open we'll find out if that one flower is an aberration.

I'll keep checking it the next few days. Buds have been looking closer and closer to opening lately, it will probably explode soon.

They do. What is it?

Edit - backtracked to the site and found it. So that's Clematis terniflora but with five petals so it must have abnormal five petaled flowers fairly often.
