Since the first thread has disappeared into thin air here's a second thread to get us going for the rest of the year.

I'm grumpy because this little teaser of Fall weather has me craving real Fall weather but Summer decided to come back with a vengeance. Sighing!

Thanks for the replacement thread Amanda. So sorry your fall was just a teaser.

yeah, I'm grumpy cuz the original Grumpy 2018 thread disappeared Thumbs down

Ok, here's my newest grump!!
Today was a "book" day. Went over to the Library with a friend (Pat) and we went through the books that the Marigold Library System said we needed to get rid of. Some of the books we'd just gotten last month, some only had creases in the spine from being read, and yes - there were some that needed to get weeded out, but of the 3 boxes of books they were going to throw out (I made them leave them behind), we have maybe 1/2 of a box that really should go out because they're damaged. It's annoying that they came 45 min early, and had weeded them out before I got there. I've now gone through our catalogue list & taken out the books we aren't keeping. Those books I can give to an even smaller library that's nearby (and isn't under the Marigold "umbrella").
I belong to a Library system where if they don't have the book you're looking for, they will get it from another library, anywhere in Southern Alberta. Some of the books I've gotten from these other Libraries I would not keep in my home, they're in such a sad shape - whole chunks of pages falling out, covers delapitated, etc. We, however, are being held to a "higher standard" because we have a volunteer staff?!?!? Blinking Confused Frankly, I'm very annoyed at this. Grumbling

When I took my walk around the yard this morning, I saw a lot of pink flowers on the ground at the edge of the property and I wondered what could be blooming and I had a thought -- maybe it's kudzu Sure enough when I came inside and looked it up, that was what it was. I will have to ask our yard man to bring his kudzu killer with him the next time he comes. We were never bothered with it until several years ago. If we don't keep it in check, I'm afraid one day we will come down here and won't be able to find the house! A big to those who "helped" us by importing it!

P.S. It seems that we are posting on two grumpy threads -- the old '17 one and this new one. The old one should be closed, but I don't know how to do it!

@MISSINGROSIE Thank You! So far we have been able to keep it at bay, however, it is all around the perimeter of the property on one side. We had no problem with it until several years ago after a hurricane. Along with the large amount of rain, it probably distributed a bunch of seeds, too. I will ask our yard man what he uses. It seems to be effective.

Have any of you ever had cold, or something kinda-sorta like a cold and not really been sure what you had.
Last Tuesday I went to bed with a throat that felt like I was getting a genuine sore throat, so I took some Nyquill type stuff and slept with a cloth over my mouth so it did not dry out.
Well in the morning I was surprised, hmmm it was gone Blinking .
Went to bed that day and bang it was back but only one side of the throat and not really that bad so -- more cold/flu medicine but less than normal.
Well this kept on most days, some it was gone, till by Sat. my ears were popping like when you go swimming and get water in your ears.
I never felt sick or even had any real symptoms , other than at night brief sore throat till I went to bed some nights; but when I sat in a recliner my chest then would feel like I should be wheezing but I had no trouble breathing and there was no wheezing.
More days of it being neither here nor gone till last night and today I did cough to clear my throat a few time but now that is gone. Blinking
My sense of taste was near zero, even though when at new normal they ain't worth much, which is one reason I though of a cold but my sinuses were never even near affected.

I never actually felt sick during the day and did not get tired while working so it was not really a bad thing just weird when you do not know if you are sick or not; only real bad thing is , even taking smaller doses, using Nyquill type stuff seems to stay with you till you feel like you never totally wake up and it takes days to totally wear off. Angry

Believe it or not, @RpR, in my almost 50 yr. experience in dentistry, a great number of folks (perhaps a majority of them in fact) only know that they have a sinus infection, sinus drainage, and/or sinus congestion, because of other-area symptoms. Earaches, headaches, sore throat, often having to clear the throat, and toothaches are only some of those symptoms. I cannot tell you the hundreds, if not thousands of times patients came in with a tooth ache in the upper arch, only to find out that it was directed related to sinus congestion. I am certainly not here to diagnose your problem. I just want to pass along some of my experiences.

Nothing too grumpy to report but thought I should check in and wish everyone a happy Labor Day. Just haven't had the time lately to spend here, with our Florida relatives spending the summer nearby and wanting to "get together" constantly... Rolling my eyes.

Ken, you had the first post on the 2017 grumpy thread so you should be able to mark it as closed. Smiling

Fair season is over.
I like to listen to radio broadcasts from the State Fair, and even some from County Fairs, as that way I can be there without being there.
Oh well there is next year. Sighing!

I lived in Starkville, Rosie, and that's about 275 miles north of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have many friends living on that coast though, friends from when we lived in Pascagoula, 1971-1996.

The good thing is that Gordon is moving so rapidly, it won't have time to develop into a dangerous hurricane. It is forecast to become a Cat. 1 hurricane when it comes ashore. A Cat. 1 is nothing. It'll just be more of a nuisance and a rain-maker as it comes ashore. A bit of tidal surge and low-land flooding, but that's not an uncommon thing along the Gulf Coast. Did you know that for every Cat. rise (1 to a 2, 2 to a 3, etc.), the destruction approximately doubles? Thus a Cat. 5 hurricane will produce 16 times the destruction as a Cat. 1.

For the last 36 hr., we had gusty winds and off-and-on rain here in Vero Beach from this system. I never saw the sun yesterday. I see the sun peeking out now, so that tropical wave as moved into the Gulf.

@drdawg We had rain off and on yesterday, too, as well as the wind, which means I will have to go out and pick up debris in the yard. Some of the twigs and branches left from Irma are still hanging in the trees and the wind shakes them out.

Actually good timing as nothing important going on but when Sharon came home last night she said something was wrong with the car and from her description is sounded like a broken brake rotor or it need new U-joints.

Well I drove it and at first brakes maybe but I took it to the mechanic and he agreed it was probably the tranny or rear-end.
When I heard him test drive it, the gear grinding make me fear a locking rear-end.
Left it there, walked home in the rain and hope for the best of the worst.
