Well, here I am back from the first orchid show of the year, and can you believe it, my feet did not get burnt, and I only bought one orchid, off my list of two. A little plant of Rlc. Coral Gold 'Pacific Rainbow' just had to come home with me after seeing Lindsey's lovely one. The guy in the booth actually recommended that I buy the small plant instead of the bigger one that was $10 more, because he says it's a vigorous grower! I was thankful.
My new baby.
Some eye candy for our enjoyment on a January day:
There were a lot of these Phaiocalanthe Kryponite crosses at the show, it's the orchid du jour, it seems.
Yes, those Maikai crosses are vigorous, generous bloomers! The other lower foreground is a wonderful Why Not cross. Nice small size.
Specimen plant of Andree Millar, just magnificent! The displays were nice this year with the colors grouped instead of all mixed up. I liked the look a lot.
Sometimes I couldn't tell which plant went with which tag, and sometimes couldn't see the tag at all.
Partly the lighting but this (left side) one had huge flowers of a very dusky rose red. Really pretty and unusual.
Going to have to find myself one of these with the ivory petals and deep red lip, such a stunning combo. They were way too much money at the show, though. Didn't get a name off this one either, I don't think!
Bill, this one is Onc. Twinkle 'Pinkie' with even smaller flowers than the one you showed us yesterday. They were selling tiny starts of this in 2in. pots for $25 so I was able to talk myself out of one.
A really wonderful Phrag and I was most impressed with the size of the plant - at least 4ft. tall with probably 30 large buds coming along.
The B. 'Peach Birds' is still on my list, but there were very few plants for sale, all big ones in bloom for too much $$.
