I have a question for you. How moist do you keep your anthuriums in general?
I have an Ace of Spades that I can only get four leaves at a time out of.(Right now it only has two) I am wandering if under or over watering is the culprit. It gets randomly fertilized with whatever organic solution I have around at the time several times a year and is watered with fish water. It spends most of the year outside under a gazebo except in the winter.
Velvet Anthurium (Anthurium 'Ace of Spades')

It really kind of depends on the individual species. I have terrestrial ones, lithophytic ones, epiphytic ones that are growing in nothing but sphagnum moss, and vining ones. Some of them get watered almost every day. Others every other day to 2 days. They are not houseplants....some are planted in the ground, and some are in containers.
Anthurium 'Ace of Spades' is a pretty old hybrid of unknown parentage. Its terrestrial, so I water it every couple days.
I use a very loose mix for terrestrial anthuriums, the proportion of actual potting soil is not large so the plant will uptake what it needs and the rest will pretty much drain quickly.
The Velvet section (Cardiolonchium) is one of my other favorite groups. I especially like ones like A. clarinervium

My other most favorite sections of Anthuria is the section Dactylophyllum. These are the fingered anthuriums, and the section Schizoplacium, the palmate ones.
Dactylophullum includes plants like cutucuense, clavigerum,


polydactylum


Polychistum

Pedatoradiatum



and Podophyllum

Schizoplacium contains only 3 species (none of which I own)-- angustisectum, longissimum and pedatum (although taxonomists believe that pedatoratiatum and podophyllum may actually belong in this group and they may be moved over.

I'd be very glad to see any other species from these 2 groups that anyone is growing!

Your plants are all so nice, Gina. I'd sure love to see your greenhouse! I haven't had any Anthuriums since we lived in the tropics.

I tend to go for the species plants rather that the showy A. andreanum hybrids. Although I do have some of those...I really am partial to the Obake types. My plants are nice ONLY because they are greenhouse grown under nice conditions. If I lived anywhere else other than So Florida or more 'tropical' I could not have these plants outside a protected environment

I also have a hybrid called Big Bill, if I recall its Pendulafolium x cubense. I had one years ago it had leaves over 5 ft but it passed away in the Great Greenhouse Heater Debacle, recently I was lucky enough to be able to replace it at a decent cost

I love the velvety Anthuriums too, but have not yet acquired any. My understanding was that they needed a decent amount of humidity. Is that true? Overall, is their care much different than philodendrons?

They do require higher humidity. Most of them are higher elevation plants (not all) and most are epiphytic. Yes I think they are a lot different than Philos

Do you have any idea what the humidity is in your greenhouse?

I agree they are nice looking leaves. Such a pretty glossy green color. I am becoming envious of your climate for tropical plant growing.

Its not 'summer' humid here yet...I think our outdoor humidity is maybe 65%? I have been using the cooling pad swamp cooler lately because its so hot. But tomorrow we get a cold front (50's at night my husband in heaven so it will be cool in the mornings)

I've been thinking of getting a couple of those humidity meters for my house, just out of curiosity. Most of my plants are fine but I do have a few humidifiers. There have been a few days that I've been able to open the windows, and I think they like that.

In true summer, the humidity here is like a sauna. It will frequently be 90 F and 90% humidity. Its hard to even go outside. Mold and algae collect on surfaces, like asphalt and the cedar siding of our house, and the flagstones. Which is a problem, because then it gets slippery. We don;t want to be sued if someone falls. Water drips off of things. They say that the 'true tropics' starts in Puerto Rico. But in summer here, its like that
