Actually, what I really want to know is how many Texans are active or semi active in NGA? I know that there's a number of us who like to chat about this, that and the other here on the Texas Gardening forum. I can't help but think there are others who might read but not join in much or at all. And there could be some who only spend their time in other forums. Is there any way to know or make a guesstimate?

I know that you can go to the member list and search by location. I tried that the other day but you have to look at each member's profile to get an idea as to whether they're active. A number of profiles showed that members had joined in the early 2000s and not posted since. Of course that doesn't mean they don't lurk around from time to time. I merely looked at a handful as it would be painfully time consuming to look at each profile. So . . . that puts me back to my question of 'How many Texans'. Anyone have any idea?

I might have to resort to that. Dave lives in Texas and he doesn't hang here. But he's probably kinda busy.

If you look at the number of views I've gotten on my poorly named Master List of plant sales, then divide by 2 because I go in and out of it a lot (well maybe not that much😸), seems there must be a lot of Texans around here. Or 'looky loos' from other states. Probably a bunch of Yankees. I can say that because I used to be one. (oh just slap me)

I am a Texas member in Port Lavaca and a Daylily addict. Some old standbys Butterscotch Ruffles, Yellow Bouquet, Rosie Meyer now have scapes. High humidity makes daylilies a challenge, but I am still ordering more! Amaryllis will be blooming in a few days. Garden is coming alive.

Well hello @Allison26. I knew there had to be some Texans who don't play around in the Texas forum despite the fact that we're an assorted - oh, never mind.

There's a good Amaryllis forum if you haven't noticed. I pester them with questions and they're very helpful.

My Texas geography has gone to the dogs so all I know is that Port Lavaca is around the coast. There's a ton of spring plant sales going on right now (read 'healthy and cheap') but don't know if any are close to you. If interested you can check the list I created. A lot have come and gone but there's still plenty more. I added one last night that was, hmm, where. I remember it was sponsored by 2 groups of Master Gardeners and 1 was Port Aransas.

When I was hunting for spring plant sales, it seems like there was an arboretum or botanical garden that has amaryllis bulbs (and other beauties) for mail order. I should find that again and post it.

I just joined up and already started a thread. I looked through past pages and see that its not too active. I'd love to see that change! I like talking plants and I don't know a single, solitary gardener around here.😢. I'm awfully lonely in that respect.

I live in Austin. We are a little more active when the weather is a bit warmer. I'm not taking most of my plants out until I'm sure we aren't getting another freeze.

I've always heard to wait until after Easter to be safe from freezes. That's too long for me. We have strange weather but everyone thinks that about where they live, it seems.

I've started taking my native perennials outside. Most are in the ground but some didn't make it in time and have been inside in containers. I'm going to be glad when everyone is planted. Uh oh. I see there's a dang squirrel 🐿 in one ot the containers. Wish I was good with a slingshot.

Well...I do not live in Sugarland but, I do live in Texas
As you can tell I am not active on the Texas forum...I am most active on the Garden Photo Forum. I have a thread for my caffeinated garden and visit a few other gardens on that thread.
I have a lot of bulbs, might be what I grow the most of. Surprising what comes as a bulb. (Aside from lilium) Nothing kills a bulb not even a mole. I have a lot of daylilies and iris...usually just pop in on those threads, too. I do not get the latest and greatest plants, just ones that seriously want to live in Texas. My garden also has quite a few salvias.

Sharon - The Grapevine Garden Club is fixing to have their spring plant sale pretty soon. April 13th, I think. Are you a member?

Sugarland is part of the Houston area, about 45 mins from me it is South west of Houston proper.

I knew it was in that general area. I'm hoping to find out about their sale in April. They only sell amaryllis but I don't know if they sell by mail order. Even though amaryllis aren't native, the club is nonprofit and this is their annual fundraiser. I emailed them and hope someone checks the club's email.

Yes, the garden sale in Grapevine is April 13. However, I am not a member of the club...my garden takes too much time. I actually put the whole garden in, myself. We only have about 200 sq. feet of grass...that leaves a lot of garden space.

Probably not to the Grapevine sale although it sounds like a good one. We're lucky that we have such a plethora of great native plant sales in the DFW area. Actually there's more sales across the state than I had imagined. I love that many small towns as well as the metropolitan areas have spring 'mostly native' plant sales.

I'm thinking that I just added a sale in Dallas on the 13th. There's one that's only about 5 easy miles from where I live.

I have a cousin who lives in Double Oak (I call it 'Oak Oak') and she's going to the sale in Flower Mound, also on the 13th.

Let us hope for nice weather on the 13th.

Thanks @pod. I've noticed that the list has gotten a lot of views and I know they're not all mine, although I did run through it earlier. I hope I don't end up getting 'decision lock' and not going to any of my local or nearby sales.

I am new to this website and am looking forward to keeping an eye on the Texan gardners no matter which area they are in. I love flowers and a pretty yard. My raised flower bed in front has started coming to life. Have several perennials that I planted in 2017. Some made it and some perished (too hot, too little water, too much water?) who knows. But I replaced them in 2018 with something different as I didn't want to waste time or money on proven failures:) I have been pleasantly surprised as to how many have made it through 2 years now of our hot as well as freezing weather. Some of the flowers I had never heard of but read they were pretty tough so gave them a shot. Some of the survivors are:cherry brandy gaura, cherry red autumn sage, mealy cup sage, Texas sage, arctic blaze purple salvia, blue eyed beauty osteosperum, hot pink delosperma, mini famous compact dark red calibriochoa, wicked purple verbena, and quartz verbena. Some of these may be mispelled:) I have plugged in blank spots with colorful pots of pansies, dianthus, petunias and gorgeous gerbera daisies I got at Kroger last week. A very colorful start to this years growing season. I still have a trellis inside a raised flower bed in the back yard that is a blank page waiting for me to get my hands on I have been thinking of putting a clematis vine on that trellis but not sure if it will survive here, if anyone knows please let me know. Guess that's enough rambling for now. I will keep an eye on this thread for any good suggestions and to see what's going in in other parts of our great state!
