I saw the first black dirt of my North garden today.
Still about a foot over most of it.
Should be gone within a week at most but then the frost has to come out of the ground , although I do not think the frost is very deep as the worst cold did not come till there was at least four inches over the ground.

At this time in 1965 were had double digit below zero every day with extremely heavy snow, feet now inches, followed by a quick warm up bringing Minn. the worst flooding on record in most of the state.

Four days since last post and the North garden is mostly clear.
I can see the main pile of coffee grounds and its peak is a foot high while it is approx. three feet in diameter.

Raked ugly debris off of ground by bird feeder; do not usually rake this early but it was truly ugly raked up a lot faster than I thought it would.
Burnt half of it and put the rest on top of the coffee grounds as that pile was ugly too.

It is now 41 degrees with very bright cloudy sky.
The rain forecast for later this week has now been called off.

Normally , even in worst winters, businesses leave their parking lot snow piles to melt off but this year many spent the bucks to have them removed so things look odd without all the melting snow downtown.
Supposed to hit high sixties later this week but I prefer it would not.

All my snapdragon, petunia, tomato and rudbeckia seeds have germinated. Raked the lawn yesterday and ready to tackle the pruning of my apple tree soon.

Snow has melted but it was kind of neat have snow partially covering the ground again.
It is supposed to hit the sixties again this weekend but I have read that before and it was a fairy tale.

Ground is thawing, it no longer feels like you are stepping on sponge , it just feels like soft ground now.
Temperatures are a bit above average today and tomorrow but the next ten days are guesscast for averaging 15 degrees below average daytime highs and one night may set a new low at night.

Two days ago they guesscast today and tomorrow for temps. seven to eight degrees higher than we will actually get.
I took my snow tires off and mowed the lawn which amounted to blowing the leaves not raked into a windrow but it got too sloppy to rake them and put them in the compost bin.
We could get measurable snow also in three days.

It is 35 degrees where I am now and fifty miles South of here at home it is 31 degrees, which is only 2 degrees above the forecast low for down there.
If the weather service is guessing correctly we will be setting new low in the next few days.

Snow they are babbling about is from, last I heard, 7 inches to 12 inches with the worst to be 70 miles Slightly North-West of here.
Glad did not take the snowblower in yet.

Potatoes from the Maine Potato Lady are on their way as I received an e-mail saying so and they should arrive tomorrow.
It seems not too many people understand what -- ship two weeks before May Day means any more.

On the Eleventh of April, in the year of our Lord Two Thousand Ten and Nine years it is 28 degree Fahrenheit with strong winds and sleeting snow.

There is only two inches at most up but it is still drifting to a degree.
Spruce trees are beating the house so it sounded like the shingles were being ripped of of the roof.
I walked outside barefoot to get the newspaper from the steps on the hill where the lazy newpaper boy throws it nowadays and was fortunate to kick the correct snow drift apart and spot the bag it was in.
28 degrees is not that cold but I was surprised how cold my feet got so that snow is colder than air temp.

UPS delivered my potatoes from Maine and our mailbox is falling apart so I will have to go out in the storm and wire it together.

Hello Caroline,
I was glad for that snow we just had, it was getting pretty dry and dusty in the city.
I've been potting up petunia seedlings these past few days and a few more days of that still to come. Dahlias and Cannas are sending up shoots. My first half dozen glads are peeking up so I'll be potting another batch today. I was just in the greenhouse planting acorn squash and cucumber seed.

Got up to go to Palm Sunday Church and the ground was still totally covered with snow and the snow was frozen hard as I could walk on top it.
Went to dinner at Bonanza's came home and the hill was partly bare and the snow was sloppy soft.

It is 64 degrees right now and supposed to get five or so degrees higher.
Forecast for the next week is pretty much average temperatures.
Very, very different from last year, right now any way.
Happy Easter to all.

Absolutely great Easter Sunday yesterday but I was surprised at the traffic on the highway.
A lot of people must travel for Easter Sunday get togethers.

Seventy some degrees today, but possible snow showers in a few days, rain definitely if no snow.
Considering putting some potatoes in . Thinking is cheap as then I have to first roto-till so I can redo the berm around the whole garden.
Weather is, again this year, mostly above and below the norm but so far there have been more average days than last year.

I know if I uncover the roses it will freeze but I should at least start taking the leaves off but not digging out the buried ones.
They are still covered at the big public rose garden so I am not behind.

I've been uncovering things and topping with composted manure and now the temperatures are going to drop to just above freezing for at least a week now. Crying
