Irma was a cat 1 when it went by us, but it didn't go right over us here, stayed west and yet still did a lot of damage to the trees. It was a cat 4 when it hit the Straits of Florida. I remember it was the first hurricane to hit FL in over ten years, Wilma 2005 was the last one....we need a good long streak like that again....just saying.
Charley in 2004 went right over us here and was just downgraded to a cat 1, but winds in our county were the highest ever recorded in history, they were cat 2 strength, I lost five mature oak trees in that storm and never want to go through that again, no pictures because my camera was in my camper and I didn't have a fancy cell phone then.
