thank you evelyn. these were my first love, but the bearded now share an equal spot .
in the bay area, the ji's are a little easier to care for, but never had reblooms (i watered the irises with the backwash from the pond we had, and didn't have to do much fertilizing). my little shift to the bearded happened when i learned some tb's did a second or third season bloom.
in this garden, i have a low spot that stays damp almost all year 'round. it's from neighbor's runoff and my own watering. i was in a quandary, what might survive and thrive there? it's only about 18" wide (20' long) with pvc running in that space, too, for irrigation. i've been experimenting with things to grow.
so far maiden hair (Adiantum raddianum) has volunteered from airborne spores, i've planted bromeliads, brunnera 'jack frost', dianthus, lobelia erinus, , some si's and now a few ji's. so may the hardiest plant or plants, survive.
