Can anyone identify this plant for me. I've had it for a couple of years and I have no idea what it is...it has never bloomed and is about 2 feet tall.

IDK what the plant is.

I've collected seed from my Victoria Rhubarb. I just checked on my test seedling, and it had been yanked out by the root and the top eaten off.

Some black hollyhock seed and sugar snap peas are out there, but I fear the heavy rains may have molded them.

Lisa, does the plant you want to ID have a particular fragrance when you crush the leaves?

So far I've collected seeds from a double pink Aquilegia, Silene armeria, and variegated Petasites. If the daily rains ever end, I hope to harvest a few more.

I've collected seeds for Yellow Cabbage collards along with six varieties of peas. I have collard seeds for the world and enough pea seeds to plant for fall. July is about the hottest time in Central Texas, and that's when we are supposed to plant the fall garden. Rolling my eyes.

So hot and dry here in Middle Tennessee right now...but perfect for seed collecting. I've collected several different types of Columbines, Sugar Magnolia Tendril Pea (So pretty!), Larkspur, Poppies, Dianthus and Black Hollyhocks. So nice to have a seed swap to look forward to and a reason to collect seeds to share!

That's great!

It sounds like some of you are collecting seeds for swapping.

It's been so got here lately that I haven't been out in the gardens much but I am collecting on my morning walk throughs!

@duane456
I think it was 3 years ago that you share shared some asclepias purpurascens seeds with me. I finally have blooms!!

Pickings have been slim, the pollinators have gone missing as of late so I don't have a diverse variety. Though I think I may have some zinnias here soon and rose of Sharon.

Still trying to collect between rains. I am down to doing just 3-4 swaps a year because of lack of time. This year I want to start now so that I can join more swaps this fall, not for the seeds as much as the fun of it. Crossing Fingers!

Collected about 2 cups full of yellow cosmos, though I'm sure that's not a high priority for anyone. Several peas, though they'll be planted later for a fall crop. Got mountain spinach seeds drying so I'll harvest them soon. But our late spring threw everything off kilter.

Hi All,

Good to see you all here. Hurray! Collected my first seeds a couple days ago and thought of you all. First seeds in are old fashioned mustard. I want to try to make mustard out of them, but fear my four little plants will not be enough LOL, so I'll give some up later.

I did some columbine crosses this spring, although I did not properly document them so I'll have a mix of them. they are still drying on the plants. I did bag them so there's that, but don't remember the pollinator donors on them. Any of you that do crosses of any plants, I'd be glad to hear your procedures and how you keep track. Also, what plant is listed first? pollen or ovum donor? Are those even the correct terms? I searched and searched for info on scientific methods and documenting of cross pollinations and all I got was so much jargon and info on specific crosses that I was left very frustrated. Thinking

Anyway, looking forward to another great trade year, even though we all had a rough spring.

I'm collecting lots of seeds.

I haven't seen many on wish list though. 😭

Please remember when listing seeds for swapping, this is the NOT from the seed rack seed swap. This means please refrain from listing seeds that can be purchased at your local store.

I have to sit and delete most of last year's seeds. I'm trying to collect the newer growing plants.

I sure wish you could delete all your listings with just one click... I think it's the only thing that I don't like about this swap system.

I'll be inviting a few Facebook friends to join in. These are people that I have traded with and grown their seeds.

I hope to have a great swap again.

Karen,
I'm crossing hardy hibiscus and a few daylilies.
"Pod parent x Pollen parent" is the convention. So, if I take Tie Dye pollen and put it on Mocha Moon, the cross is "Mocha Moon x Tie Dye".
ľm bagging my buds in organza bags so I can get to them before the bees, caterpillars, and beetles that inject eggs into the immature seed pod. The bags keep the ripe seeds from falling on the ground before I can collect them. I label them with a "permanent" marker on construction flagging tape. I was tying the tape on - now I just put it in the organza bag. I have pink bags and lavender tape. nodding
If the picked pods aren't fully dry, just hang them up in their bags, and they will be.

I love cosmos, and trying to build up my color around here. None of my non-edible stuff is blooming this year, I suspect because my veggies are hogging up all the sunny-est spots in the yard.
But I have managed to collect some coneflower seeds and a few daylily seeds from my grandpa's yard. Smiling This year will be my first seed swap ever and I am really looking forward to it. I'm hoping I can gather enough!

We understand if you don't have a lot of seeds the first year. Daylilies are popular, especially if you know which variety one or both of the parent plants are. Nurseries will sometimes let you collect seed off plants if you ask permission and are very careful not to damage them. Also, landscape displays at businesses and neighbors yards can be good sources. Have fun! Big Grin

Thanks for all the good ideas, Diana! I'm excited to start brainstorming and rigging up ways to collect seed as it falls off of my plants!

Another source for seeds is to join a local facebook group. I posted one year asking to help clean up people's gardens. One guy let me come over and take dozens of varieties of seeds.
