I spent about 5 hours or so at Mid-America and barely scratched the surface of the thousands of iris that were in bloom. The SDB's were mostly done at this point but the earlier TB's were all in their glory. There are pics of some of this year's intros in here. Really nice intros will be scattered throughout. In general there are some amazing blooms being created by Thomas and Paul.

I am going to post these in the order I saw them. Some tag ID's were missed or partial but I tried to get as much info as I could on the loads of seedlings. It was on and off with light rain the day I was there but I am sure that Brad will have some nice sunshine pics to post later since he was out there a week after me and in better weather.

My friend Lori and I started at the original fields right by Sebrite Hostas and Thomas' house. Thomas was going down to take pictures of some of the seedlings, and flag those that will be considered for introductions, so we started at that point.

Here are three new 2019 intros:

Thanks for sharing! I went last year and also got to meet Thomas Johnson and others at a meeting. It was on my bucketlist and so glad that I flew out to see it in person. It is a wonderful memory to have.

That is the number Lucy. Smiling

I am sorry to say that the lovely burnt orange one posted above will probably not make it to introduction. I was reading a Mid-America post on Facebook where Thomas mentioned that the bloom was great but the rest of the iris had problems. Hope he continues to work with that color!

It looks like the buds are a bit too close to the stems making it look crowded. It is not fun trashing a nice bloom because it has other problems. Sad

Thanks Tom for pointing that out. I need to get better at looking past the pretty bloom. It is rare down here to ever get 8 buds on a stalk so I do tend to neglect the requirements of bud count and branching. Though I do find that double socketed blooms tend to look more crowded to me than short branching. I would be miserable at choosing intros from these guys seedlings! Hilarious!

If you ever get the chance to attend a judges training, do so, as it will give you a lot of information that is useful if you ever start growing TB's from seeds. Smiling Our club had Thomas Johnson do a training for us, and it proved to be really beneficial to me.

I can imagine. He was very informative out in his gardens. On the regional tour next spring we have a judges training stop. I had already thought of tagging along on that one.
