The L&M stands for Lynn and Melissa. As in Lynn Smith and me, Melissa!!

Today I spent the afternoon with Lynn at her house and had a great time. I wanna steal her Susie dog.

We have come up with what I think is going to be a very interesting project. Lynn loaded me up with a bunch of very tiny semps today while I was visiting her. Some of them are offsets from her own seedlings that she is growing out and some of them are offsets from her German plants.

She has them growing at her house and I am going to grow them at my house, of course. And then we are going to compare and hopefully learn something from all this? Or not. But I still think it will be a fun project.

You can check this thread for updates and pictures. I am going to be very busy tomorrow potting up all these little guys. I think I have something like 30 or 40 of them.

Photos will follow!

Somehow the thought of you two teaming up is a bit scary! I'm sure there will be a bit of mischief going along with the semp talk!

As many of you know I don't provide the best environment for my much loved semps. Water is at a premium here in my area, so my semps get very little water in the drought season. Despite this they still reward me with their beauty.
The down side is that I really don't know how many of them will grow under more favorable conditions. Thus Melissa and I will be conducting an experiment. This will also help us to do some updating in our semp database. Hurray!

Great idea to team up and help further the knowledge we need regarding what I always hear people say when they look at somebody else's semp: Why doesn't my {insert any semp name here} look like that Confused

That is so true Bev.
I started realizing even in my own garden that the same plant can look quite different in the same soil, but different lighting conditions. I have several cultivars growing in two places, full sun and then 1/2 day sun.
And I finally found the perfect spot for my 'Grunrand', it is loving the shadier spot it is living in for two years now. It has looked absolutely beautiful year round in it's new surrounding.

I have a few that I need to move. It's so gratifying when we find the perfect conditions for our semps. They're all so different!

Now Kevin, why would you think a couple of sweet old ladies like Lynn and I would do any mischief? Not so!! Angel

How about this.

As I was getting ready to leave Lynn's, I started my car to get the A/C going, closed the driver door and all four doors promptly locked!!! I had a few moments of panic when Lynn reminded me that I had Onstar. We went in the house, called Onstar and within a few seconds my car was unlocked! It was like magic. Hurray! Rolling on the floor laughing

Lesson learned!

I got everybody potted up and settled in a nice protected spot. And I took some pictures.

This is what I brought home from Lynn's. There are 40 of them.

I will see that they stay that way. As they grow they will quickly move into bigger pots and by spring I hope to have them all settled and ready to GROW!! Now I need to start working on my pot collection. It is getting a bit low with all the planting I have been doing.

Thank you Karen. We are trying to do a comparison of different semps growing in different gardens/states to see how much the plant can vary during the same date.

Okay Melissa, I got some more photos today. Let me see if I can do this without messing up.
All of these have been moved to Oregon City, 1 to 2 weeks ago. So have closed up in protest.

Oh my, a lot of the corresponding ones are noticibly different from each other. Really cant match them up on color alone: Alesia and Devils Touch varied a lot.
