Another month is in the books and here we are in December. Let me start off with a group picture.

Here is the Bc Hippodamia again with most buds open

This C. loddigesii 'Shorty' x aclandiae 'The Chairman' isn't registered as such, but this 1863 reverse cross is, three times!

and Jumellea comorensis starts up again. The blooms have a pleasant cinnamon scent. It always was a bit of a wild plant and the older growth needs close supervision, they are very much prone to see scale in those tight leaves. Treating them always resulted in loss of plant material, but since I started to use Neem oil last year, it is finally under control and isn't harmed by an occasionally spray of the stuff.

I have never seen a Hippodamia anywhere near that size!! Not even close. You obviously have her in a great location!
C. Brabantiae is one of my favorite primary Cattleya hybrids. It has such beautiful color.
And the comorensis is just so pretty!
It must be a fragrant "bomb cyclone" in the greenhouse after dark! My goodness, you have given us another spectacular start to a new month.

My Paphiopedilum concolor is open and no matter how much I tried, I could not capture its true color. Right now it is a rich canary yellow. All of those spots are bright red. There are dozens and dozens off them!
The flower is just over three inches wide. I want to say that about 40-50% of the clones of this species now throw multiple blooms per inflorescence. Usually two, very rarely three. It is too early for me to predict if I will see another bud emerge but I am hopeful.

Ken, it is the Rlc Chia Lin 'New City'! A second spike is in the works. The scent is incredible!

I have a new baby to show off today! A friend gave me this Paph (no tag that I've found . . ) and although it would not be my choice, I sure am enjoying it. I'll see if I can manage to keep it alive for more than a few months . . I think I'll just be sure to bring it indoors once the weather gets warm again.

Cold weather looming here for tomorrow - down into the 40's tomorrow night! - so it and all the Vandas are staying in the house for now.

Elaine, my first thought on your Paphiopedilum, which has great color, was a Paphiopedilum callosum hybrid. Definitely a vini -color clone.
Then I looked at some googled Raisin Pies. It looks similar to a vini-colored Raisin Pie. I don't think that I have anything better then that at the moment.

I have to make a correction!! See above the so called Brabantiae. You know, as I am going about my business today here, I was wondering - didn't I have a Brabantiae some years ago, and didn't that have some spots? Well, I figured, different clones and a reverse cross may have resulted in this nice straight pink! But that thought kept nagging! No, I was wrong, it helps to read the tag!! This is loddigesii x walkeriana, not aclandiae.
Sorry about that! I guess only an offering to the Orchid gods will do!

It's supposed to go down to 37 here tonight so I've brought in all the sensitive plants as well as those in bud. The annual 'Orchid shuffle' seems to have started especially early this year. I've acquired a bunch of Cattleya species this year and now have to do my homework to find out exactly how much abuse they can take.



My dining room bakers rack and a few newer blooms in the living room.
The really nice Den. Fire Wings that Jim gave me has put out a couple of new spikes.



And the C. White Spark 'Panda' has opened a second spike.

How much abuse they can take? I always have to remind myself that I was wearing warm polartecs in August around Iguazu/Brazil and certainly needed warm clothes to layer in Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and Peru. It does get chilly at times, especially in the mountains.
I think the 'Panda' is gorgeous and I love the Fire Wings.

And here is my Bulbo echinolabium with another bloom, luckily at the other end of the greenhouse!

And Dendrobium Luz del Dia 'Kiilani' starts up. This plant is with me ca 26 years, my mother bought it for me at her last visit. In the meanwhile this plant turned into a big monster and blooms usually from now right into Spring.

And Rlc Chia Lin 'New City' opened a second spike.

Echinolabium loosely translated means, "lip with big stink!!!"
