Do we post salmon color here also? Will it be a separate thread?

I love the Coral peonies. I do think Coral Sunset. Is my favorite because of the way it fades.

My Coral N Gold is flat out UGLY! The plant is always leggy—it's not in a shady area—and the foliage is sparse. The flowers are okay but not really eye catching....I think I got a dud!
I love the way most of the corals fade; it's like having a different flower every day from opening until the petals fall off!
Loving the peony pic parade!

What a treat to wake up to this morning to see these gorgeous colored blooms! I too love Pink Hawaiian Coral's color! It is such a great bloomer for the late garden and I just love its pretty fading color.

Anya, I think Ludovica and Cytherea and other salmon colored peonies can be posted here. I'd rather that they be posted here than the pink category because there are many more pinks than corals.

LG, I don't grow Coral Supreme so I really appreciate seeing it here. Do you know if it blooms about the same time as Coral Sunset or later?

Is anyone here turned off by Coral Charm's scent? Would you be offended with the smell and the person who gifted a bouquet of these flowers to you? Just want to ask your opinion on this because I hesitate to give these to people fearing they may misinterpret the gesture after smelling the flowers. Confused Confused

Liz, Coral N Gold is a weak plant for me too. Once in a while it does produce nice blooms if the weather and temp are just right. You will get the glowing colors that you see in LG's pic. To put it this way, my 4 years old plant gave me about 3 decent blooms this past spring.

Karen, CS is first, then PHC, then Coral Supreme. These three are all in the same flowerbed.

I have Coral Magic, but it sends up it's bloomstalk with the bud already at the end and it has gotten frozen every year. D'Oh!

Since we are doing Salmon on this thread, here is Salmon Glory. It has very weak stems, but just a lovely color that fades beautifully

I cannot tell that the odor is bad on corals, at least in our garden. Paula Fay though smells quite bad.

Karen, to me the smell from Coral Charm is so weak you don't notice it unless you put your nose right in it. It's one of the most popular peonies for cut flower sales so I'd say most wouldn't care about the scent...for me though it blooms at the same time as one of my mock oranges—one of the generic, huge shrub ones—so I just put them in a vase together. The mock orange is so scented that I don't even think you could smell the peony unless you actually pulled a bloom out of the vase. They look gorgeous together as well, the tiny white blooms amongst those huge coral ones!

That's a great idea! Thanks Liz! I don't have mock orange but have lilac. That will be a great combo!

Does anyone grow Tropicana?

I do, but it was planted in the fall of 2019 so I have yet to see flowers. I'm hoping I will this year. Here is a photo from the 2018 APS convention in Piet Wierstra's show garden. The flowers and stems were massive which convinced me to add it to the garden.

Nick, I was also impressed with Tropicana in that garden. Although flowers look similar to other corals the bush was so massive that made it really to stand out.

Great picture! And is it so different in color after 2-3 days of blooming from Coral Sunset to consider getting it? I wonder if you compare it to Raspberry Charm and Cytherea ...

It was more of a pink coral as opposed to an orange coral. Probably closer to Cytherea as it didn't contain as much red as Raspberry Charm. In my memory it was close to Pink Hawaiian Coral. I personally prefer the more orange corals because that colour really stands out in the garden but size and presentation was what sold me on the plant. You might want to take that with a grain of salt as it's coming up on three years since I saw it last and I've only seen the one plant so perhaps it will behave differently in different growing conditions. Sorry, wish I could be of more help! I can certainly report back here once it blooms for me.

Thanks, Nick. All those websites are repeating that it will a great cut flower producer and it appeals to me... With strong stems, less fading and floriferous...makes me think to get it sooner or later...

I have Tropicana, and it hasn't done well for me. It comes up very early and gets frozen out. I think I'll move it, and see if it does better somewhere else. I planted it in Fall 2016.

LG, does any of your other corals behave this way as well? Corals are generally fine in Toronto, though I do not grow them personally.
