Hi

I am looking at several varieties of dahlias to buy for next spring. Dahlia Vancouver is on my list. I am hearing that the stems are not strong enough to hold up the big beautiful flowers. Has anyone had experience with Vancouver and did you have problems with the stems being weak?

I do stake all of my dahilas.

TIA

I've grown Vancouver for years and haven't found the stems to be any weaker than similar size dahlias. The only problem is it's always been a very poor tuber maker for me. I end up buying new ones every year. It's a beautiful dahlia and one I'd hate to be without.

Thank you Dan. I really appreciate it. I think that I will keep it on my list. The blooms are gorgeous on this one.

@Carolynn22, you can apply Sulfate of potash for weak stems.
