Hey, everyone, I love growing heirloom tomatoes, and I am looking for some new varieties for this year. I would like to have some suggestions, what have you grown that you liked, good producers, etc. I'm interested in any color or size, determinate or indeterminate. Let's talk tomatoes!

I grew a blue one years ago, called indigo drop. It didn't do well, but that was before I learned how to grow tomatoes! Hilarious! Thank you so much for the link. Thumbs up

I'm always looking for cheap( inexpensive ) seeds. Good site, some I've never seen before. I did see that it listed the striped Roman as a striped Roma. Maybe a typo? Good to see my states official tomatoes, the Bradley and the Traveler.

I don't plant until May 1st, to avoid late frosts. My last frost date is supposed to be April 15, but we have had hard freezes as late as April 25th. The plants do better planted around the first of May. Of course, then I have to pick varieties that can handle high heat and humidity in the summer. 90+ degrees, and 70%+ humidity. Heirlooms thrive in these conditions. I have tried some hybrids developed for heat and humidity and some of them are tasteless, with thick skin. One good one is Creole, I don't know this ones heritage, but it does produce a red, round flavorful tomato. Arkansas traveler and Bradley bred for heat/humidity ,so they do well. University of Arkansas intros. Clemson U. Has developed some nice ones.

I've seen that one, I might try that next year. Have you tried a white tomato? I think that's the only color I haven't tried.

I've grown a type of white cherry tomato called SnowWhite. It produces sprays of white tomatoes that become a very pale shade of yellow as they ripen. Very sweet.

This is my first time growing any tomatoes from seed. Always just set out Bonnie plants. I'm trying some Brandywines and Bonnie Best. This is also my first post in a long time on here.

You go! The brandy wine is one of the best tasting! I'm hoping to post pics soon. I've doubled the number of plants I grow, from 10 to 20. I've gotten many new heirlooms and ops growing.

Rutgers is a really good, red tomato. Crack free, which is important in hot, humid climates. It's technically an heirloom because it's been around since the 30s?

I've grown them for about 5 years. I don't have any this year. I'm thinking it used to be more popular than it is now. It used to be grown primarily as a canning tomato due to its round, standard size and to its being a determinate. I have found that here it keeps bearing fruit all summer after the first flush.
It's a perfect size for a slicing tomato.

That's good to hear. All I've researched about them talked about it being a good all around tomato.

The Brandywines are getting big. Looking good so far. Picked my first 3 tomatoes couple days ago off the Bonnie plants. 2 out of the 3 had small holes in them. Don't think they from bird pecking. Got to check all them today and see what's going on.

Wow, we were talking about that on one of the veggie threads recently.... don't remember which one, I'm on a lot of them, and I've noticed you are too.... If the tomatoes were red, it could be squirrels, birds, or coons, although coons tend to pick the whole tomato and take off with it. If they're green, it could be a little caterpillar related to army worms. I've had these for years, and I didn't even know what they were. I knew they were the enemy, cause they were eating my tomatoes. They also eat the leaves like hornworms. I've already found some this year on the leaves.
