I've always been curious about these giant bulbs. My impression is that a smaller bulb that's well fed can be just as productive, but what you get with larger bulbs is sheer size. I look forward to seeing it bloom. You have a nice set up for amarylises there!

The larger bulbs are often sold at a higher cost as "Mother Bulbs". They are several years older than the standard bulb and are expected to have 3-4 scapes. Most bulbs will eventually reach that diameter after a couple of years.

Yes, I agree with you there somewhat. I have one half that size that had three flowering scape`s. So far I can only see four leaves and what looks like a possible second flower scape forming? but it is early days.

It seems i`m hooked already. It started with one Amaryllis (a gift) - now i`m up to five with seeds sown too, oh, and another one on it`s way to me Rolling my eyes.

Thank you, yes they seem to like this East facing window. The plan is to do all the growing indoors throughout the year.

Why not outdoors in the summer at least, plants can tolerate temperatures almost to freezing, mine outside all year around.
