Hello, I am hoping to add a couple of good reds this Spring. I am in zone 6. I have not been impressed with Barbara Mandrell. I am curious if anyone is currently growing BLAZING CANNONS, CARDINAL KISSES?

I have much better red spidery daylilies, but I am looking for more of the round ruffled ones. WALTER KENNEDY has a great face, but it is also a EV. Some don't thrive very well here.

Thanks for any input you may have.

No answer, just really glad you asked the question. I want a good true red, but seems like all the ones that call to me are evergreens. I will be watching this thread. I will day that Spinal tap is good a good plant, just not quite the shade of red I am wanting. Christmas Greetings does modestly well too, blooms well but a bit shorter than i like

Hi, Nancy
I prefer my daylilies to be at least 28 inches unless it is a small or mini plant. I have Glory in Red and it is good plant just not a outstanding grower.

CARDINAL KISSES looked great in a clump but is on the shorter side. I saw it on the 2018 Region 10 tour. It is a Kirchhoff cultivar but also a Evergreen.

One of my favorite reds is 'Passion For Red', it is a Semi-evergreen. I just received 'Complementary Colors' but it is an evergreen and a child of 'Passion For Red'.

Thanks, Larry. I really like CCs white midrib, but I guess I had better stick with looking for a SE.

I grow Blazing Saddles. It's a good cultivar that reblooms well. But it's far from my favorite red. I think that's because it has a tan base. My favorite reds are the ones with no tan or orange in them. Here are a couple of photos. My pics do make it look a brighter red than it really is.

One that I would recommend is registered as an evergreen but acts like a semievergreen here. It's Insider Trading. I have two friends in Ohio who say it is hardy for them there. It has a smaller flower than most of my reds and no edge, but you can't beat the color or the plant habit. It's also good for hybridizing reds.

My other favorite red that is not an evergreen is Buddy's Red Head. It's an incredible rebloomer and pod setter.

Most reds with fancy edges are evergreen. My very favorite is The Ultimate Sacrifice, which has been hardy for me.

Just received 'Insider Trading' the other day, it is always good to read a good recommendation on a new plant!

It's a Sev that grows slowly, but surely here and has the best form of any red I have. Flowers have super substance, velvet texture, and intense color.

Debra and Greg those are nice ones. Debra, Insider Trading does well in my Z:5 garden also. I have been eyeing the Ultimate Sacrifice. The price has come down on the LA.

Mike - Glad to hear Insider Trading does well for you too. I don't now how well The Ultimate Sacrifice does in the north. You might check with Ginny. I know she bought it. I love it my garden.

Larry - I hope you will enjoy Insider Trading as much as I do.

Anyone recognize this bloom? It has a good budcount. The bloom is maybe 3.5. It was a gift plant that I didn't get tagged. I really like it.

Thanks, I think I will tag now. Hurray! I think it came with an order in 2018.
