How do you get full sun and no rain without living in the desert? I feel I have to pull my adenium into protected area with even the slightest chance of rain. Trouble is, Houston is a BIG area. When the Weatherman says "50% chance of rain", that means it could rain anywhere, even 100 miles away and still be considered Houston. Am I being over protective?

My Adeniums love rain! If the days following are windless and cloudy and cool, that's the problem, rot might set in. One thing to do is give the plants a shake to rid them of puddles of water on their leaves, and too much water in the buds. Soaked buds often rot and fall off, and water on leaves can leavr spots. These spots are unsightly, but not a threat that I know of.

If you get days of rain, once it stops, what I do is to upend the pots, letting the plant come an inch or two out of the pot into my hand, if they fit, anyway, and then turn them back rightside up,. This gives them breathing space inside the pot. So I think anyway!

cool cold clowdy days and lot of rain its the danger BUT like here in florida i get rain most every day. I have over 75 adeniums and the key to mine surviving is sun and warm that day or the very next day

The potting mix if correct well draining think your ok.

the adenium i sold you if you put in a good draining mix when you see new leaves your good to go with rain in my option

that trick Mellisa said lets them breath AND lets the soil dry a bit also GREAT tip !!

I leave mine out in the rain, and my temperatures are about the same as yours. I spray them with water daily when it doesn't rain. As long as they are not standing in water, you will be fine

This all sounds like GREAT ADVICE mine was left outside in a 3 or 4 day rain storm while i was in the hospital with my daughter getting a new grandbaby.Not really thinking much about it until things settled down about a week later.The cauldex was soft very soft almost mushy and shrinking to the point of being wrinkled.

I am sure the great people on this forum remember because they helped me save this poor plant.I now have mine planted in a chuncky mix and when i water it the water does seem to run straight through but it has some bark in it that holds water.I live in Ga. so it dries out completely in about 2-3 days.When i re-potted my DR had already lost all sucker roots (feeder roots).

I think you can never be to careful but take a few extra steps to make sure it drains very well,I monitor the amount of rain & the amount of sun between storms,humidity i have found the higher the humidity the longer it takes soil to dry.

I let mine stay out for 1 day or 1 night of rain,depending on the last time i watered. That's only my opinion and i am fairly new at growing Adenium's, but i've learned a lot in a short period of time from the great folks at ATP.

I must try to post a picture because even this late in the season my DR has blooms and for everyone who helped me this picture says it all. I hope i can find a good picture.

Hi Melissa, Hi Wilfred, I might not post much anymore, but I do lurk and try to get on once a week. I keep wanting to get out there with my camera, but at about noon my energy level is about zero. I mostly wanted to take a shot of my poor attempt at grafting I think you would get a laugh out of it. My drive way hedge of dessert rose is at a point where I have to trim to stop excessive growth on some of them. I should have paid more attention to color, too many reds bunched up and I wish I had interspersed with whites. Now the roots are down about two feet and can't be moved without killing them. Oh well, live and learn. Hi Doris and every one else. I miss you all.

This is not about Adeniums but I am worried about a pair of humming birds, they were flying around looking for food so I put some sugar water out as you can see this is a fat bird,and I suspect she is full of eggs, I don't know what to do, I was told not to feed them but they will surley die , it got down to 38 last night, way too cold for this time of year.

Mike, have you tried? even tho we (but mostly you) get some frost it doesn't seem to kill any of the ones I have in the ground! I think it's too late to try it now but in the spring I'd give it some thought you might be surprised, maybe just put one in the ground and see what happens. This year I'm going to try one or two left out in pots to see if they survive, they will be cuttings so not a great loss if they don't make it. Doris that's one fat humming bird! I just got in from playing God,(separating the wheat from the chaff) Weeding. I get all kind of spiritual thoughts when I'm weeding, for instance I hope the Lord misses as many weeds as I do, maybe I'll sneak by and get a place to stay up there Here is the hedge last year, I'll do my best to show you what it looks like now,tomorrow. Plants are much larger, I took the picket fence down, I tried black paper to prevent weeds but didn't like it so dug that up. It's a shame that few happen to be blooming right now but I'll take the pic anyway.

50-70% chance of rain for us this weekend, the first rain in 10 days. I am not going to worry about my new adenium, Mike, since it is growing new leaves and likes it's location. Traveling again, but will alert hubby if the rains last and last and last with cloudy days. In out of the rain comes the plumeria cuttings, too!

OK, nobody laugh! Here is how my "hedge is coming along. All wedre planted at the same time. one or two got huge, the whites remain small and seldom have leafs but are always in flower? I took a close up of the white and see that it's being attacked by somthing, now I gota get out there and clean them up[, I think it's spider mites.

That looks really cool! I think those are aphids on the white one, it will probably leaf out when you get rid of them. I love that you don't have the usual boxwood hedge but one of Desert Rose.

Yes, Aphids, horrid suckers! I use a plastic pop bottle with a couple of squirts of diswashing liquid, then 1/2 full of water, shake until you have mostly foamy bubbles. You can squeeze the foamy bubbles on the flowers/buds and it goes all over the wretched bugs. Then, in a half hour or so, I go back and wash off with plain water.

I have had a few aphids lately. Ugh.
