Bought a $9.00 package of 50 seeds (parentage unknown) off of eBay in the spring of 2019. This one I started indoors in June and set it out into bed mid September. Ten months later, a surprisingly nice bloom this morning.... Rivals some I have paid a lot more for....!

Agreed. Exploding scapes can break your heart. Especially if it's a new plant and you may only get one or two scape.

If they don't burst completely into, I have been able to tape a splint around them and they would bloom. About the only thing you can do when they blast completely apart is stick the scape in some water and hope they were close enough to blooming to at least see what the bloom looks like, even though it probably wont be a good example of what a nice bloom would look like.

I splinted two last year... in both cases the scape was unusually large in diameter and split vertically over a 12" length upward from the fan base...

I've had occasional scapes blast, and I've learned to try to keep my plants that are starting to scape in the spring pretty wet when it starts really heating up here.

Beautiful seedlings, and I especially love Spunky1's first dip seedling! Thumbs up We're off to a good start! YEA!!! Hurray!

Well,
If we are showing next to nothing blooms on seedlings it looks like I will be able to post a book of them this year.
These bloomed over the past two days. So far only two decent blooms. I am hoping now that those really cool mornings have past things will start looking better. I least I have some early blooms Rolling on the floor laughing

There will be that one in many that will make up for all those 'next to nothings' I am sure! And maybe all those next to nothings will shape up in time to come.

It's so nice to see these wonderful seedling blooms -- I still don't see any scapes in my garden here yet, only a few on new arrivals. Larry, it looks like all your hard work is really paying off - great seedlings! Love that last one, Fred! Thumbs up

Had nothing new blooming yesterday. This is the babies planted in Sept, several scapes almost above the foliage. The PVC pipes are 18 inchs tall. The two year old's have scapes well above the foliage.

I do have a few seedlings that were blooming this morning when I went down to check:

'Erin Lea' x 'America's Most Wanted' : This one shows a little of the sculpted relief I was going for. Hopefully it will show more as the plant matures.

'Open Hearth' x UNK: At the top of the photo you can see the legs of the critter that was guilty of eating the petal, he did the same thing yesterday, but he won't be bothering any more blooms after today.
