Hi Everyone

I purchased two Purple Heuchera (Not sure the official variant) one is doing well with flowers starting to come up, the other one doesn't look as hot. It has a lot of very large leaves that sit low to the ground. There are new leaves in the center of the plant, and I guess my question is, should I cut these older low lying leaves and just leave the new growth? Is that something I should do, or just leave it. I can post a picture if that's more helpful.

Thanks in advance for anyone who tries to help!

Jason

Without a pic I would not cut the leaves on a plant recently purchased. Remember leaves feed the roots. Even leaves that are not pretty. The more leaves the more energy for a plant through the leaves the better plant you will have.

Hi Cinta

Thanks for the reply. I thought I would include a photo, in case that changes your advice.

They just look like leaves that survived last Winter, if you want to cut them I would wait till the plant is established, but no reason to do it other then looks.

I agree with Bob. Hercs have never been a strong plant in my garden so I tend to lean toward leaving leaves that still have life over beauty. I wait until the new leaves have fully developed and cut the old leaves.

Thanks, everyone. I guess I will just leave them for now. I don't think the plant was that great to start with. I picked up a Cherry Truffle and a Spearmint this weekend. The Truffle is gorgeous!!

No problem NJBob. Here is a picture of the Cherry Truffle I got. It's definitely my favourite. I have Spearmint, Berry Timeless, Sunrise and one other that I am not sure the name of.

Does anyone know what the name of the Heuchera is at the beginning of this thread? I lost or never had the name of it.

Thanks

Started another Heuchera garden in the back. The varieties I got were: Apple Twist, Black Pearl, Silver Gumdrop, Pretty Pistachio, Spearmint, Fun and Games Hopscotch, Cherry Truffle, Peachberry Ice. Everything is so colourful! Attached is a photo of them before we added the mulch.

Thanks
