I have many new tall daylilies this year. Here's one registered at 50" that I planted last year. It was only about 3 feet this year, so it has some growing to do.

Daylilies Region: Michigan Orchids Roses
Frank, I noticed the breeder's description of 'Ancient Elf" includes "very fragrant".

I am always on the lookout for fragrance in the garden -- did you happen to notice if 'Ancient Elf' was fragrant?

Thanks!

Sorry, i did not make a note of it. I usually do not bother smelling flowers, Even if they are fragrant, I smell nothing:) Also, I went out to check on it and it is done blooming. It is listed as a rebloomer, so if it does I will try to check it out.

Pretty color on 'Getting Airborne'!

Chew Mailpouch Tobacco is about 5 feet tall this year, but next year should reach it max at 6 feet. It is also bud building, so has bloomed for six weeks now on the one and only scape I have. It's just a plain old barn red color, but it is a welcome addition to my garden. Can't wait until it is a clump!

I planted Chew Mailpouch Tobacco in 2019. After 45 days in the soil, it produced a bloom. One year later, it was about 4 feet tall. Looking forward to next year:)

That's pretty impressive to get a bloom 45 days after planting, Frank. I got mine in 2018, it put up a scape in 2019, but the scape dried up. So this is the first year I've seen it in bloom. I love it!

Yes, i was surprised that it actually put out a bloom in such a short time. I did nothing:)

I have noticed that some of the "tall" daylilies that i planted take a couple years to grow up, while some are quite tall after only one year.

Reminds Me of Fireworks is a great plant, but in the 5-6 years I have had it, it has never met its height. 35 to 36" tall is the norm. It does get about its bud count and multiplies well.

Moved to its current location last year. Looks like it will do ok. Not at its registered height, maybe next year.

Frank, that is a great shot showing how the scapes are holding up those huge blooms on 'Getting Airborne'! I am surprised that it is registered at being so much taller than either of its parents.

I love seeing all the flickr pictures that you link to. The pictures from 2018 showing that nice saturated purple are gorgeous!

Anytime I see 'Royal Celebration' in the parentage, I get a bit leary of a cultivar's performance, but it looks like GA got all the good stuff from the pod parent, lol! I still haven't gotten rid of 'Royal Celebration' like I threatened to do, but it has never, ever performed well. The blooms are always splotchy and misshapen.

I sent my RC to someone willing to give it a chance. Next on the list is Euro Mazing. It is ironic that Royal Celebration is the pollen parent of this one. I am hereby offering Euro Mazing free for shipping. It is taller than the registered height of twenty nine inches in my garden.
