Well it is that time of the year for gardeners, who live in the northern hemisphere, to start looking at online catalogs of Amaryllis bulbs. Royal Colors has posted their fall offerings. Lots of old favorites and a few new ones. It looks as if the problems that they had last year, in shipping to the USA, have finally been resolved. If you are looking for bulbs from South Africa, Hadeco has a retail store which ships to the USA. The other regular sources are starting to post their offerings.

For once in my life, I actually put in my fall bulb order on a reasonable date -- this morning! I usually wait so late that lots of the bulb varieties I want get sold out.

So far I've only ordered two amaryllis this year -- I've got so many now that I reaaaaaally don't need any more. Smiling But I did order Sweet Lillian and Misty, both from Scheepers. I'll probably order a couple more varieties by the end of fall!

edit: Well, you got me in trouble! After seeing your post, I had to go check out Royal Colors, and then I looked around until I found myamaryllis.com selling Hadeco plants. I tried to order some from them, but I couldn't get a charge to go through their international system -- tried with two different cards! Then I looked around some more and finally landed on Bloomingbulbs.com . Their amaryllis bulbs are CHEAP. I've never tried them before -- and it makes me nervous that for most bulbs they don't list a bulb size -- but I'm trying them out. From them I ordered Joker, Harlequin, Fire Dancer, Fanfare, Flamenco Queen, and Dynamite.

And now I'm REALLY done -- at least until the late fall bulb sales! LOL!

Amazindirt: Hadeco uses something called pay gate, accepting both Visa and MC. My charge went through without problems on June 2nd. I wasn't able to pay last year, I had to contact them and they sent me an email link which allowed me to pay them. So if pay gate is giving anyone problems, just contact myamaryllis.com and they should be able to resolve things. Last year, I had 3 mislabeled bulbs out of 8 from Hadeco, which was a real disappointment. I ordered the three bulbs that were mislabelled, again this year. If more than one of them is mislabelled this year, I will seriously rethink dealing with them. You got a nice selection of bulbs from Bloomingbulbs. All but Flamenco Queen are from Hadeco.

Yeah, the attempted payments went through Pay Gate, but both cards got rejected even after the banks sent me "you must approve this charge" messages.

Except for Dragonfly, I was able to find the same varieties at Bloomingbulb, so I'm not all that upset. But one of these days I WILL track down Dragonfly -- very attractive variety!

And can you tell I'm getting into the miniatures these days? In part because I'm running out of room! Hilarious!

The 4 Hadeco bulbs arrived yesterday. They are shipped as a bulk order to a company in New Jersey that repackages the bulbs and sends them to the individual buyers in the USA. Yesterday I also ordered 2 bulbs, which are new to me, from "Amaryllis Man" in Florida. This is the first year that I've ordered from them. I also ordered three old favorites from Amaryllis Bulb Company. Waiting to see if White Flower Farm has any new ones this year. I already have everything that is being sold by Royal Colors this year, so I am skipping them this year, unless they post anything new after Xmas.

I saw Amaryllis Man's website -- I'll be curious to see how those turn out! I got skeptical when I saw that he had the same photo on two different varieties, but it would be nice to buy from a small grower if he turns out to be trustworthy.

And I can't believe anyone actually orders from WFF. They are SOOOO overpriced. Do you order from them for unique varieties that nobody else carries?

I used to get a lot of bulbs from WFF and Royal Colors. Both were expensive, but the bulbs were healthy and correctly labeled. Both companies had excellent customer service. So far this year, I haven't seen anything on either website that I don't already own. Last year, Hadeco sent me 3 out of 8 mislabeled bulbs and a fourth bulb didn't grown at all. So, fingers are crossed that Hadeco does better with the 4 bulbs that I ordered this year.

Do I call this the first bloom of the new season at my house?
Thumb of 2020-09-22/kenisaac/4066be
Or should I call it the last bloom of the old season?

It's a Red Lion, that I bought in a multi-pack display that didn't bloom LAST CHRISTMAS, but instead sprouted leaves and then just "hung out" all summer. It's an individualist. It's still pretty, no matter the time.

My bulbs from Hadeco have bloomed. The 4 bulbs were repeats of the ones that had been mislabeled last year, This year, only one of the 4 was mislabeled, an improvement. Next year, I'll try again to get that one elusive bulb.

Juniper from Hadeco. Unusual sonatini, petals curl back on themselves, pale green with a pink edge that fades as it ages.

Nice!

That Juniper looks almost like some of the swamp lilies (Crinum spp), doesn't it?

Cape Horn from Amaryllis Man in Florida. A very nice medium sized pink bloom with a white star and a green throat. This is the first year, I've seen it advertised by several online companies.

Cherry Blossom from Amaryllis Bulb Company. Reminds me of Apple Blossom. White with pink markings, green throat and red eye. I have never seen so much variation in the amount of pink on blooms of the same scape.

United Nations from Amaryllis Man. Photos don't do this one justice. A very nice mid-sized white with dark pink raspberry markings. Perfect for Christmas.
