Does anyone know of a good trusted true to name source for Chinese fully double peonies?
Cricket Hill has some good ones in their grafting rotation that I am waiting for.
And Solaris has some also.
But I am looking for cultivars that they do not have.
Thank You for the read!

Didn't Cate from Lyndacker Farms buy the stock when the Tree Peony Garden lady retired? I'd watch her stock as it becomes available, she sends amazing roots and TPG offered a lot of Chinese doubles. Might be getting my info mixed up, hopefully someone can straighten me out or confirm!

Look into 4peonies, I haven't ordered from her and you have to e-mail her to find out what she has in stock. She if she's got it, then look into her reviews and she if you like her interaction. I wasn't super thrilled, but I generally ask a million questions and change my mind 6 times, so e-mail ordering is challenging.

They sale imported plants, I have heard good and bad from others who ordered.
I think it is important for people to know if they are buying a grafted plant or an import as part of their decision process.
To me the prices on that website are nice, but for now I would like to continue looking for a cultivar verified source, and maybe try imports at a later date.
It could take along time to get a bloom for verification. And then possibly have to begin looking again.

But I do not think it was right of me to post someone elses words that were not intended to be public. So I apologize and have edited this post to remove them.

If you know Chinese/have friends knowing Chinese, there are quite a few guys selling tree peonies imported from Luoyang/Hezhe, China on sayweee.com. Many of the varieties are doubles. But now it is a bit late, you can try next year.

Please keep in mind many Chinese suffruticosa are flowering early, and prefer dry climates, may not preform as well as Japanese varieties in US.

You are welcome, it is 'sayweee.com'.
From my experience, they can not guarantee 100% true to the variety name, sometimes you need to contact them to change, the warranty period is about 8 months from fall.

@littlebin
Thank You for the information on a source and the verification time limit!

Climate is a good point, so far I have been afraid of rot on all peonies and trying to use sand and compost to make a more friable soil.
Lou Yang Hong- Ying Lou Bao Zhu- Yu Ji Yan Zhuang have done ok so far.
peonygardenjoy on youtube has many Chinese cultivars that look so healthy and full of blooms, I hope I can get them to do as well!......or figure out how to.

littlebin, Is sayweee.com supposed to be a grocery delivery that also delivers tree peonies?

I would think a reputable importer that also grew would refund or replace if it was wrong. Is the problem with import the not knowing if it is true to variety?

I am also looking at Brothers herbs and Peonies ( treony.com.) They have both import and US grown, but they are close to me. Anyone know anything about them?

I wrote to Treony, he replied that he no longer has the imports part of his catalogue.

Hi, Annie. There are some sellers selling tree peonies there.
The products are supposed to be true to the name of variety. However, people make mistakes, so actually it is not 100 percent true to the name.
Yes, you can replace, but need to wait until the next import to replace. I am not sure about the refund, most of my friends ask for replacement if not true to the name.

I got a message back from Rick at Brothers herbs and Peonies ( treony.com.) He has had such poor luck with imported Chinese peonies that he grows ones on his farm and doesn't recommend the imports any more. I thought that was interesting.

I also missed the cut-off for ordering this year, so next year it is.

Sayweee seems to be zip code specific and tree peonies are not in my zip code. (Actually Sayweee isn't either.)

I imported 4 tree peonies from China last year and they are doing ok in Atlanta even in the raining summer. The important thing is planting them on the top of slope. There are hundreds kind of tree peony in China, I think the central China peony such as luoyanghong will be ok in US considering the weather and the soil. I bought a lot of single white peony (fengdan white) seeds this year and plan to try grafting by myself when in the next 2-3years:)

Welcome! Lucky fish!

What zone is Atlanta? That is good advice about planting on a slope.

What date did that full double bloom? It is beautiful! It's remarkable that it fully opened that far south.

LuckyFish, could a person make a little hill to plant them on, of do you need to have a slope?

Welcome! Luckyfish! This peony has amazing flowers! Small bush and enormous flowers! I hope the other 3 are also nice. Please show pictures of them next season.

Atlanta is in zone 7b, but most likely 8a in these hot years. Our house is on the top of the slope, that's good for the peony. But I think 1-2 feet high is ok to keep the peony not soak in the heavy rain here. It's the first full year they survived here, but looks pretty well, I will keep update the pics next spring.

Welcome to the peony group, luckyfish! Looking forward to seeing more of your woody peonies in the spring!

Before we bought our property in AL we visited the Birmingham Botanic Garden, they had several Chinese woody peonies blooming and all that I saw were large full doubles, fully open. There were others there that had bloomed already, was toward the end of their season. All were in dappled shade under enormous trees. I think Birmingham is right on the cusp of 7b/8a.

The amount of rain that area gets over winter amazes me, especially coming from high desert Colorado! Definitely need well draining soil...

The biggest switch from desert to other places, was that xerscaping with rocks makes for a horrible looking weed patch. It look wonderful in Vegas and awful in North Dakota (surprisingly wet.)

I also found that mint will still take over the world even in a desert if you give it water..didn't know that to start.
