I remember that you hang peanut butter/seed apples for your birds too, Vic. Fun to watch them feast.

I have lots of squirrels here, but for whatever reason they never touch cheap peanut butter unless I add nuts to the mix. But the truth is, I added a little cayenne pepper to the mix as well. Maybe that kept them away?

Hmmmmmm, maybe I should try that on my tomatoes next summer.

Maybe so, I'm not sure what brand it was but certainly not Jif, and not one that I usually eat either.
But I secretly like to think it's the pepper I added. I don't think birds can taste, so they don't mind the brand or the pepper. Big Grin

Now that is a great idea!
Trouble is because of my son's allergies I have an artificial tree, but great idea for those who don't.

Thanks, Gin

Hurray! My eight year old read it quite avidly. So this Sunday when I start to prune my grape vine, the two of us are going to make wreaths for the birds Lovey dubby . Great idea. How about one to get rid of tree rats, got more then 500 of them.
Regards,
Arif.

Big Grin Sprinkle a bunch of cayenne pepper onto the peanut butter, Arif. The squirrels hate it!!

Have fun with your girls, glad I was able to contribute to your Sunday fun. Maybe you can share pictures of your results.
(Not pictures of the fleeing squirrels, but pictures of your peanut butter/seed/pepper clad apples!)

It is a really good project for children, thanks for sharing it with yours.

I tip my hat to you. Thank you Sharon, will do. Thumbs up
I have Pomegranate, guavas, Morus rubra, grapes, citrus and a few local fruits that local birds love. A pair of Himalayan Crested Bulbul took up residence last year. So far there are nine juvenile bulbuls, quite tame due to when ever I hear a particular kind of screeching going on I know a baby has fallen out. I put them back. No lack of sparrows and parrots. There are others which I have not ID'd as yet.
Regards,
Arif.

what a neat way to prep an apple. however in my house, the leftover slices would be going to the dogs! my mini schnauzer absolutely loves apples and scarfs them down, core and all.
