Chilly, as far north as you are, the blooms do usually happen while it's too cold outside for tropical plants. You could manipulate your plant to bloom earlier/later by controlling the hours of daylight, if you have that kind of memory, discipline, and available closet, room, or box.

Kim, my plant stays on my screened porch year round and blooms mainly during the months of November and December which is not hummingbird season here either.
