Does anyone have experience with growing semps from cuttings or seeds?

I haven't had much luck from growing semps from cuttings

Not me, Alex. I was going to grow some seeds from a bloom that had started to grow on one of my semps, but the bloom stalk got snapped in two during our move.

Happy New Year! 🎊🎆

so far I haven't made anything. Went back to work on the credenza top I have been refinishing. I made some dinner and cleaned the kitchen up, then watched some tv with my dogs. My ambition is not high today

Alex,

There's a whole chapter in my book on Sempervivum on raising plants from seed. These don't reproduce true from seed but rather they vary all over the place. That's how new cultivars are created.

My dogs enjoyed having me home while it was cold so they could stay inside and be warm and dry. They are pretty spoiled.

@valleylynn those rollers are so cute and pretty! I've never heard of them before. Big colonies of them must look really good!

It seems that taking photos of your plants is sort of a tradition here, so I went out and did the same Smiling

Previously in 2020 (why does it feel as though 2020 is so far back?!?) I shared some of my NoID photos, but the quality sucked. I got some newer photos :)

My friend gave me two of his Orostachys, forgot what type though D'Oh!

Thumb of 2021-01-04/sedumzz/9a3fff

Some of my NoIDS, found a way to do extreme close-ups

This one's probably my favorite so far, it's really purple and cute

Thumb of 2021-01-04/sedumzz/f9a4ce

Here was one that was mentioned previously, Lynn, I think you're right about the fuzzy tips! There's a bit of dirt on this one, when the soil dries I'll brush it off

Thumb of 2021-01-04/sedumzz/fd8195

Here's another one that looks really good! It is still a bit root-less, so I'll hope it'll grow roots soon. Any tips for rooting semps would be great! Crossing Fingers!

Thumb of 2021-01-04/sedumzz/71b93f

I took a photo of the garden so maybe in 2022 I can compare the photos. I think this will be a great way to see how my garden grows Smiling i plan to take these every month or so

I'd love to see all of your garden photos. I think that in a lot of cases, plants grow so slowly that you don;t realize how much they've grown until you compare two different photos to eachother!

I'm afraid to get rollers, if they decide to roll around here they'd probably get too dry and burn up or too wet and rot, or my cats would play ball with them

Alex, your photos are really improving. Very nice.
This one is very interesting with the long cilia lining the leaves and making tufts at the tips. It also looks like it might have a velvet texture when it dries out.
Thumb of 2021-01-04/sedumzz/fd8195

Alice, you might be surprised on how well the rollers might do for you. Start them at the end of your winter so they have time to establish and put some bird netting over them to protect from birds and you cute cat. Once they establish it shouldn't be a problem.

@valleylynn Yes, it does feel very velvety. It has an interesting color, and I didn't realize the cilia lining until now Smiling

I originally got this from a friend, but I'm 70% sure he got it from Home Depot. I have 3 of these, so I can send some to you in the future if you want Smiling
