I've been adding to my wish list like crazy after looking at Countryside and A & D. Fantastic from Countryside wasn't in the database so I added it as best I could with info from the APS listing.

https://adpeonies.com/product/...
Then I wanted to add Tecumseh from A & D but when I checked the APS listing it was described as being red.
https://americanpeonysociety.o...

I abandoned my entry at that point.

Advice?

I purchased Tecumseh several years ago from Song Sparrow and it was advertised as a pink Japanese. You're right about the description in the APS registery, it's the same in the Carsten Burkhardt database but it has pics of the Klehm's variety as well....looks like an oops somewhere.

As for Fantastic, I got mine from Bannister's the year they retired, no telling what it actually is.

I think Fantastic is okay, pictures seem consistant across nursery websites & APS. Has yours not bloomed yet Liz? It has such a FUN look to it, like windswept hair. Once the snow is gone I'm going to have to find a patch to squeeze in some hot pink peonies next year: Fantastic, Neon, Serebro. My wishlist is over 30 long now!

I think it's named after the Shawnee Chief.

Tecumseh is not common at all, it looks like the original variety was substituted with this pink peony, sometimes it happens. Like Red Satin which is offered now across nurseries is definitely a hybrid but it is lactiflora in APS Registry.

Hmmm. Looks like the original red version isn't offered anywhere. Even APS doesn't have a picture. Might be out of commerce entirely.

The other question would be, do you get a peony that you are drawn to, even if you are not sure of the name registry accuracy? Or do you just get what you like? I think the A & D variety is very pretty.

Absolutely I'd get it! I'd just label it as possible until confirmed and change it to NOID if I couldn't. Some of my favorites are NOIDs...I enjoy the flowers no less!

Liz, did you like what you got from Song Sparrow as this variety? I think it's lovely, the A & D version.

I did! I don't think I got flowers the last couple of years with our late blizzards followed by drought but know it was moved to AL, hopefully it'll survive and thrive there!

I'm going to email G.H Wild & son and see if anyone can shed some light. I want the A & D version even if it isn't Tecumseh. Definitely next year. If it doesn't sell out I may buy it and a few others later in the year (Neon & Alertie). My planting budget is spoken for until April! A &D even has a good price on Lorelai ($48) but I'm trying to limit myself to one extravagant purchase a year 😜. I don't think they have a fall sale either.

You're right, A&D doesn't do a fall sale. They did send a bonus root at one time but I think they stopped.

That bares no resemblance to what A & D sells. How do you go from that to
Thumb of 2021-02-11/Hiyamakki/affbc3?

I was hoping the original would be the A & D plant but red. Wouldn't that be stunning? I think I will still get the apricot one next year if they offer it!

Would be interesting to find out. Think I'll do a post on FB on the APS group and ask if anyone knows what the pink one is or how it got associated.

So far the only thing shared that was relevant was that Nate Bremer thinks the mistake started in the Klehm's fields, that maybe they had the variety mis-marked. Sure has spread widely, though! No one has put forward a possible real name although a few people say they have the pink version as well.

No wonder this variety was mixed up with something. I remember I read here that there was a big mess with peonies in Wild and Son fields at some point. Is ti right?
