I see all those weather news from South and can not imagine what is going on in those gardens and homes of our forum members. Snow and freeze in Texas. Totally unexpected. We had quite a snowfall ( around 10 inches or so ) last night in Toronto, but I did not expect any spring until April anyway. Please share your pictures and whether you were successful protecting your plants.

So far, it has been cold and snowy in February for my area. We are going to get more snow Thursday.

This month is definitely the coldest of the winter, we hadn't been below 15 up until now.

Debra, how are you doing down in Dallas? Has it ever gotten this cold before that you remember?

Here is my garden today. Apparently, it will be snowing all night tonight.
However, I still think that our spring will start next week because the daily temperatures will be just above zero. The sun is already high and the snow will melt, which is good - the plants will get some water to start growing

I just went out and took some pics. 7.5° F (-13.6°C). This is the coldest it has been here in many years.

Your Natchez crepe myrtle bark is so pretty, LG! I immediately looked how hardy it is and it is not going to survive in here. Pity :(
We had another 10 inches of snow yesterday and overnight. But it is normal so far. Spring is coming.

Our Wiarton Willie was a no-show this year but they still forecast an early Spring So far we have about two feet of snow here in this area. This is the current night view of where we have our coffee every morning - when the snow has gone

We have been getting some fresh snow after a long break after a snow storm in November. It is pretty and still long time before spring.

So pretty, Val! I do hope you have an early Spring.

It's 35° F here now 😊(1.67° C)

We had 12 inches and it snowed for 3 days...but it did not go below 25f, so it was mostly knocking snow off so it did not break plants. It is only our 4 winter here and it seems there are cold spells and/or snow (usually only once a year) for a couple of days at a time then it warms up. Everything will do fine, unless I forget to cover them the 10-15 days we have cold snaps.

Me too as I have waaaay too many plant orders coming in March/April OMG. I love that we have real winters here - i.e. months when I actually can't do any gardening; without those I be worn out by now.

We're having quite a bit of snow here, snowing almost every 2-4 days. We had about 30 inches of accumulated snow, but it's melting quick from rain. Tomorrow will be back in the mid 40s! I was telling my husband that this is how I remember winter being when I was a kid. The winters in the last decade or so were oddly warm for us.

Most of our snow is gone this morning, it got up to 65 and was sunny yesterday. Still have a lot of ice on my waterfall and in shady areas but all of that will change tonight. Depending on which service I listen to we'll get somewhere between 4 and 10". Hope for water's sake it's 10 but I can't help cringing to see more winter weather. Don't know why I'm whining, up until the last 30 days we really haven't had much real cold this season!

Wow, Liz, you also had a mild winter? I think we never got below -17C this year in Toronto and only for a couple of nights. Very mild one. But I am not expecting warm weather in spring, we often get snowfalls in mid April. Still a lot of snow right now, but is is starting to melt fast.

It felt A LOT colder today than it did yesterday but it was in the 40s, actually had a bit of the ice coating the waterfall melt-1st time I've seen standing water in it for a few weeks. Had to run to the store just a bit ago and there is a bit of ice coming down now. I swear it was barely getting down to the 30s before late January. I actually teased my daughter because it was actually warmer here than Chattanooga quite often in Nov and Dec!

Apart from some snow, nearly .most of the precipitation was in the form of rainfall. Including one rather odd Thunderstorm.
Turned out, these past two months made for placing ninth in the records, for amounts of precipitation. Did I mention that also likely translated into record number of Cloudy days, too ?
About a week of freezing, give a few degrees above, or below 32°F. It is still a muddy yard.
While now it is still in the 50's, & was in a short sleeved shirt today, with the sun out.

If it doesn't have frost for a few more weeks, then I'd about say Spring may have arrived.

Though, after that odd event in TX. could just be a clue, that a very late ice storm may occur. After some trees have either flowered, or already leafed out.
I suppose that's climate change for you, being rather unpredictable.

Too much rain, or snow. Possibly not enough snow in winter, & next you're facing a drought, later. Too darned cold, at the wrong time or too hot by summer, & you get a heatwave.
It's anybody's guess, this year.

Well it got up into the 70's here yesterday. Of course I had to work, but afterwards I went out and walked around. The snow crocuses are at their peak, and there were probably 10 clumps of early daffodils blooming. I did see 2 blooms on one clump of Tête-à-tête daffodils 😊.

The funny thing is that I still have patches of ice on the very shady areas of my place.

Now they have rain in the forecast through next week. Too bad it can't go to areas that really need it.

Forecasts last night called for up to a foot of snow in my immediate area, did not materialize—2" at most. The base that I work on preemptively put out a delayed reporting for this morning which is almost always a guarantee of no snow! Still working every other week so wasn't going in regardless...
We're one of those areas that really need the rain; even though I'm so over winter I'd be excited to see a lot of snow. It was cold enough last night that the snow we got is that really icy stuff, know what I'm talking about? The kind that blows away with the smallest of winds and doesn't do anything to improve ground moisture.

It's very windy, I think it might damage my peonies.
