I have some peonies that are coming up red this spring and several that are coming up green. Is there a place that tells which bush peonies are red shoot and which are green?

I haven't seen any such data base yet.

It's fun to look at them!

Which cultivars are coming up green?
It is said most lactiflora are coming up red, except the rare yellow Chinese lactiflora "Golden Wheel".

https://www.treepeony.com/prod...
" A very handsome, bright green foliage emerges from distinctive chartreuse early spring growth. Distinctive golden roots are unique among herbaceous peonies. A very rare, and truly unique peony"

The following photos of the yellow green shoot of "Golden Wheel " are from Internet.

Littlebin...they are not quite that green, they have a little redishness, but when they are about 2 inches they are quite greenish, while my others are red. I'll get a picture tomorrow.

My Golden Wheel came out green in the spring. I may have still the pictures somewhere.

As usual I'd like to add it's an awful plant to own and the only peony I pulled from the ground and turned into fertilizer.

My experience has been that the dark red noses are from dark red peonies and those that start out more green are pink to white peonies.

Not an absolute rule of course. I tend to just enjoy the noses early Spring so not many pics to share.

Are you referring to the one closest to the front right that has maroon and dark pink blooms, Oscar? It could be that the dark pink opened first and have faded. I imagine you can't wait to see this scene this Spring!!

Oscar, that is very exciting if your TP does produce two different colored blooms.

Most peonies show purple or red pips. Though I distinctly remember that my pink fernleaf peony has green pips. I will take its pic when it starts growing. I think that you will find a wider color range for pips of hybrid peonies.

Where are the two different colors on the same plant? Oscar
Do you mean the back side of the petals compared to the front side of the petals on the closet tree peony?

But the back side of petals often have lighter color compared to the front side in lots of tree peonies. Still, hope you can get two different colors on the same plant.

I'm with Frank - all of mine have some red, with some being a very dark maroon. They don't tend to be very green until they unfurl some leaves.

Both the red and pink blooming species fernies start out green and stay that way, both are up but neither have buds, unfortunately. Glad they survived though, fernies like it dry and AL is anything but! Maybe next year.
