Wearing Gloves Can Be Sticky

By pod
January 20, 2013

When using latex or vinyl gloves while gardening, I find they are tough to open and insert hands. Sometimes after they have been taken off, a finger or two may get inverted.

After use blow in a bit of talcum or boric powder which will stop the material from sticking and easier for hands to slip in.

Thank you Arif ~ that is a good idea to keep some powder handy. One could just dust their hands before slipping them on. When new, these gloves have some in them. Good idea!

Cornstarch would work for that, too. Smiling

Good thought ~ I'd probably be more comfortable using that than boric powder.
I took some cornstarch and scented it with peppermint last summer. It is a refreshing body talc.

Starch, corn starch let me point out is also a good growing medium for fungus I tip my hat to you.
Talc would be better.

Arif.

I generally mix it with baking soda. Do you suppose that would inhibit the growth of fungus?

Baking soda. woofie I have never baked but as far as I remember you use it to make some thing rise don't you?

It is to complicated for me. Shrug! Never baked.

Ha, ha! I almost never use "baking soda" for baking! Sodium bicarbonate. I use it mostly for cleaning.

That is what I also use it for. Now you have used two terms, first baking powder and now baking soda.
http://chemistry.about.com/cs/...
Both are different. Now can any one explain when there is no controversy over Talc or Boric powder then why go for unknowns? Every house should have talcum powder in some corner or the other while Boric powder is a niche item.

Arif.

No, no, I said baking soda both times. Smiling I checked to make sure when you referenced baking powder. Smiling For me, they're just things I happen to always have on hand. I would have no idea where to get boric acid powder.

I actually have boric powder. It is available thru the pharmacies and commonly used for roaches in this area. That was why I was hesitant to use it against my skin.

Ah, yes! I have heard of using boric acid powder against roaches. But I don't think it's at all caustic; I think it's also an ingredient in some eye drops. Remember, aspirin is also an acid. Smiling

Modern medicines, more profits but Boric acid is cheap and a bit difficult to withdraw.
woofie, I have never used baking powder but just don't get finger rot, toe rot a doctor can understand and prescribe a wash with Boric acid or some other anti fungal. Finger rot will be a bit hard to explain.

Arif.

There is a game for kids known as Carrom board. You have to hit the striker with your finger tip which goes on to hit other chips which should land in a pocket. Something like Billiards but portable. Kids lubricate the board with Boric powder. Maybe it is still being played in the UK but South Asia it is common. That is how safe it is.
Rest, use talcum there is no controversy there Confused

Arif.

That is very interesting. I wonder if what I have is the same Boric powder that you use.

At any rate, this country has created this paranoia. At first it is all right to use something, next year it will cause ______________ (fill in the blank).

There is such a move to protect us from ourselves. And some is good and necessary but we get overwhelmed and are wary of everything. Sorry for the paranoia.
